Corsica Stage 3: Albertacce to Col de Vergio

This third stage takes us to the Col de Vergio, the highest point of the day, which marks the start of the descent to Porto.
We will pass by the beautiful Radule waterfall and its pools, which are perfect for swimming.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Corsica between the mountains and the sea

Description of the walk

(S) From the lodge, cross the village again to the previous day's arrival point.

(1) Turn right onto the Mare à Mare trail (signposted). Follow this path to the Genoese bridge at Murriciolu (old mill).

(2) Cross the stream, continue straight ahead and then turn right (still on the Mare à Mare).

(3) At the next intersection, take a path that joins the road and the Col de Vergio lodge via a place called Le Fer à Cheval. We continue along the path on the right towards the Radule waterfall.

(4) Cross the Alzetu stream and the Sources des Vinacce.

(5) You will finally reach the Radule footbridge. Stop at the waterfall to take photos and then a little further up to swim (you can also swim at the foot of the waterfall).

(6) Continue along the stream and rejoin theGR®20trail. Turn left towards the Bergeries de Radule.

(7) At the sheepfolds, continue left along theGR®20trail to the Gîte du Col de Vergio, where we will spend two nights (E) (to hike to Lac Nino the next day).

Notes

No water source, no shelter.

The Albertacce stopover lodge is a good place to stay. The lodge is very friendly, the rooms are good and meals are served at the Paglia Orba restaurant, which is friendly and serves good food.

The hiking times given are often underestimated, or based on very fit walkers, but not average walkers.

Unfortunately, we did this stage in the rain and were unable to really appreciate the beauty of the landscape.
It should be noted that the Radule waterfalls had become dangerous and difficult to cross due to the increased water flow and were not at all suitable for swimming. Avoid in bad weather.
Like all the other hikers that day, we arrived soaked at the stopover lodge at the Vergio Pass, which unfortunately offers no facilities for drying clothes or shoes, which is a real problem.
