Description of the walk

(S/E) Park in front of the church in Chavanoz. Go down Rue du Prieuré to the traffic lights. Cross the D55 (Route de Lyon) with caution and continue straight ahead on the right after the cross (yellow sign). Immediately ignore Rue des Violettes on the left and continue along the path to the first intersection.

(1) Turn left and continue across the fields in a north-northwest direction until the next intersection with a section of the paved ViaRhôna.

(2) Turn right and continue straight ahead, ignoring the dead ends on the right, until you reach the Donjon d'Anthon. When you reach the large gate, turn left until you reach the cross.

(3) Turn right onto Chemin de la Vieille Cure. The street zigzags, runs alongside the old castle chapel and ends at Place des Platanes.

(4) Go down to the right to reach the confluence of the Rhône and Ain rivers.

(5) Retrace your steps back to Place des Platanes.

(4) Turn right onto Rue du Truchet towards the castle. Ignore the entrance to the castle on your left and continue to the barrier.

(6) Go through the gate and continue along the path parallel to the Rhône, which runs alongside the castle walls. Pass the stadium.

(7) Turn left onto the road, leaving the yellow markings.

(8) Turn left onto Rue du Prince d'Orange (signposted ViaRhôna) and continue straight ahead through the housing estates until you reach a large roundabout with flowers.

(9) Turn left onto Rue du Port and continue past the church until the next intersection.

(10) Turn right onto Rue de la Gait. Continue up to the cross at the Vieille Cure that you passed on the way there.

(3) Continue straight ahead, in the opposite direction to the outbound route, until you reach a fork in the road that you passed on the way out.

(2) Continue straight ahead on the paved Via Rhôna until you reach the Route de Lyon (D55).

(11) Cross it carefully and follow the Via Rhôna, which climbs up opposite, alongside the Chavanoz town hall park. When you reach the town hall, turn left and return to the starting point at the church square (S/E).

Nice little hike. A bit too much tarmac for my liking, but there isn't much traffic.
