Departure from the Névache Tourist Office.
(S) Cross the village, pass the church and turn left towards the Pont de l'Outre bridge.
(1) Just after crossing the bridge, leave the road and take the fork to the right (wooden signs). The path quickly enters a small wood. Ignore two paths coming from the left. After a short open section (about 120 metres), the path re-enters the forest and runs alongside the Clarée. After about 600m, ignore another path coming from the left, then, 50 metres further on, the one coming from the right. The path continues straight ahead without any particular difficulty, running more or less alongside the Clarée. Ignore a path that crosses the river on the right and continue to a fork.
(2) Take the path on the right, cross the Gardiole stream and pass in front of the Chalets de Basse Gardiole. The path crosses a grassy area before entering the forest again. Follow the path to a wide path coming from the right (footbridge over the Clarée).
(3) Do not take the footbridge and follow the path to the left. About 150 metres after the Chalet de la Souchère, continue on the path that branches off slightly to the right, leaving a small path on your left. Ignore another footbridge crossing the Clarée on the right and continue to a fork just before the hamlet of La Meuille.
(4) The two paths rejoin further on. However, the path on the right, which crosses the hamlet, allows you to walk along the Clarée and see the Fontcouverte waterfall. Just after the hamlet of La Meuille, leave the path that crosses the Clarée and take the path on the left. Continue to the Fontcouverte waterfall.
(5) After the waterfall, ignore the two paths coming from the left, which are the ones you left at the entrance to La Meuille. Continue on the path along the Clarée to the road.
(6) At the Refuge de la Fruitière, follow the road to the left (restricted access road in summer, so little traffic, but be careful!) for about 800 metres. After the campsite, the road runs alongside the Clarée. Leave the road as it turns to cross the river and follow the path that goes straight ahead. You will find yourself back at the edge of the Clarée. Follow the path, which begins to climb more steeply. You will pass a small chapel and then the Chalets de Roche Noire. 200 metres after the chalets, you will come to a footbridge.
(7) Ignore this and continue straight ahead, along the Clarée. You will cross the Clarée shortly before the Chalets de Laval. Be careful, as the path may be poorly marked or blocked by fences set up by shepherds. Simply walk along the fences towards the highest chalets. You will eventually reach the road, which you will follow to the Laval car park, where you will wait for the shuttle bus to take you back to your starting point (E).
very pretty route, lots of flowers, lots of water too. In places, the paths turn into streams and you have to be careful when crossing the torrents because the water is flowing fast. I walked back up to the Laval car park but hitchhiked back down.
