Description of the walk

The hike starts from the car park on the left of the D994G, at the entrance to Névache "Ville Basse".

(S/E) Head east and follow the road you took by car in the opposite direction until you reach the first junction on the left, which leads to the hamlet of Sallé.

(1) Follow the lane to the Champ Bellet ski lift car park on the left, in a right-hand bend.

(2) Take the path that starts to the left of the car park, heading north. Leave the start a few metres further on to the left and continue along the path heading north-east towards the meadows. This then turns into a trail which you follow to the entrance to the forest.

(3) Pass the turn-off on the right and continue north on a small forest track that follows the bottom of the valley through the undergrowth. At the end, it turns into a path that climbs and joins another at the top of a small ridge.

(4) Continue on the left, uphill. The path then turns south-southwest, almost horizontally, overlooking the Clarée valley. It continues halfway up the mountain, skirting the Crête de Côte Belle ridge, then crosses the Ravin de la Ruine ravine to a path on the left, downhill, which leads to the hamlet of Le Cros.

(5) Continue straight ahead, heading west, along the path that follows the bottom of the slope. Pass the turn-off on the right towards Creux des Souches and continue downhill to the path that branches off to the left at the last hairpin bend before reaching the tarmac road.

(6) Turn left towards the north-east and walk back and forth along the less marked path that leads to the Tarroche rock (altitude 1682).

(7) Descend to the road and follow it uphill for a few metres to reach the street leading out of Névache.

(8) Leave the D 301T and take the road heading east through the village. Pass in front of the church (where you can see the solar panel on the bell tower as you enter the cemetery), then continue eastwards, take the departmental road to the lower town, which you cross to return to the car park at the exit.

A very pleasant short hike. With a beautiful view of the valley and its villages between points 5 and 6.

Pleasant hike – easy. We modified it slightly in the southern part of the main road from Névache to reach the forest trail opposite our lodge (the mélézet, which I recommend).

A beautiful hike in the morning. The climb is a bit steep, but there is a mix of shaded and more open sections (some of which are a bit exposed for those of us who are prone to vertigo, but we managed to get through those two or three sections). The views of the valley and the mountains opposite were lovely.
We didn't do the round trip to Tarroche (we didn't have the energy, and more importantly, we had a picnic waiting for us in the car!). The walk took us 3 hours and 15 minutes.
For your information, opposite the car park, there is a small public area with a bench and fountain, ideal for a picnic!

A nice walk at the end of your stay to stretch your legs, even if the start of the hike is very steep... Fortunately, it's under the trees. Crossing Névache Ville Haute at the end of the hike is well worth the steep slope at the start, and the views from the balcony trail are splendid.
