Bus stop and car park near the village hall in Villeneuve. This route is signposted with hiking posts; yellow paint markings will soon be added to this walk.
(S/E) In Villeneuve, from the car park at the community hall, head out into the open countryside towards the Villeneuve sports hall.
(1) At the sports hall, turn left towards the cemetery.
(2) Cross the D 936 carefully and, at the junction with the cemetery on your right, turn right towards Chanteins. At the junctions, go straight on until you reach the crossroads near the Croix d’Agnereins.
(3) Turn right towards Chanteins. Pass under the railway line, then the high-voltage power line. You will reach the junction with the D936. See the “During the walk or nearby” section of the walk.
(4) Cross with care, continue straight on towards Guesse Moignans and Chanteins. Walk past a number of ponds, then reach a crossroads with a cross in the centre. Turn right, walk on for about a hundred metres.
(5) In Chanteins, note the discreet and intriguing presence of a building hidden behind a rammed-earth wall about a hundred metres to the right: the Chapel of Chanteins. It has the charm and simplicity of the early Romanesque sanctuaries of the Dombes. It has undergone very little alteration.
After your visit and perhaps a picnic, retrace your steps.
(5) Continue to the right, towards Bezan. Cross the D70, then pass through the hamlet of Bezan.
(6) At the fork, turn left and walk alongside a pond before reaching a crossroads near the Bezan ponds.
(7) Turn right to reach Les Éteppes,
(8) At Les Éteppes, continue straight on, pass under the railway line, then arrive at the junction with Rue de la Caronnière, thefirst street on the right.
(9) Follow it to the end to reach the junction near the sports hall.
(1) Turn left towards the centre of Villeneuve and the car park (S/E).
