Park at La Gabelle, Rue du Docteur Duval. If there are no spaces, you can park in the large car park at the entrance to the village and start the route at the roundabout by the château.
This walk isn’t difficult as it’s short, but there is a fair bit of climbing.
(S/E) Walk up the street towards the castle, come out onto the RD913 and turn left between the vegetable garden and the castle. After the roundabout, turn right onto the pedestrianised Rue de la Glacière. At the end, turn right onto Rue de la Sangle, which bends left and becomes Rue de la Vieille Charrière de Gasny. Take the steps on the right at the corner of No. 24. Then follow the path up the hillside.
(1) At the junction, turn left towards the bench to enjoy a beautiful view of the valley. Retrace your steps to the previous junction and continue straight on along a gently sloping path. At the next junction, turn left uphill until you reach the path below the road.
Turn right. Follow the stone wall to the end, then turn right again and climb the wooden bridge to take the path leading down: note the old box trees in the castle’s English garden. You’ll reach a junction with a path to the left and another to the right.
(2) Head towards the keep by taking the path on the right. Turn back.
(2) Take the path on the right, which curves to the right. Then take the first path on the left and walk up to a clearing by the roadside.
(3) Enjoy the view over the hillsides of the Seine. Then turn right to cross the clearing and follow the path which descends to the right at the end. Turn left at the junction and continue to Rue de la Charrière des Bois. Turn right then immediately left onto the path which descends towards the RD913.
(4) Cross it via the overpass, follow the road opposite, then the path continuing from it, and keep going straight on until you reach the Seine.
(5) At the end, turn right to follow the Promenade Louis Guy along the river. You will arrive at the Hôtel des Bords de Seine, where the remains of the Old Bridge stand as a reminder that it was once possible to cross the Seine here. Walk up Rue du Docteur Duval to return to the car park (S/E).
A pleasant walk, quick and without any real difficulty. Worth doing again on a day with better weather.
