Parking is available on the esplanade near the war memorial at the western exit of Allagnat.
(S/E) Start by driving to Montmeyre on the D52 road.
(1) At the first crossroads, turn left onto Rue de la Forge, leaving Rue des Ardents on your right, then Rue de l'Orme.
(2) Turn left onto Rue du Four, pass behind the inn, and at the first intersection, turn right onto Rue du Berger and join the D52 towards Ceyssat. Turn left onto the road, pass the bend, leave the road on the right and continue on the D52, ignoring the access roads on the right and left until you reach the D68.
(3) Turn left, go straight ahead at the next intersection and arrive at an intersection at the end of the village.
(4) Leave the D52 and turn left towards La Gardette, continue ignoring the roads on the right and left, and continue until you reach a right-angle bend.
(5) Follow the road straight ahead. At the cross, you will see green and white markings or WE, which you should follow to the Col de Ceyssat. Continue down the road to the Y-junction at the Étang du Fung.
(6) At the Étang du Fung, turn right onto an ascending path. At the road, turn right and continue towards Mazaye. At the triangular crossroads, continue right for about 100 metres.
(7) At the Y-junction, turn left to join the D558 road. Turn left and descend to Mazayes, leaving the town hall on your left and passing the church.
(8) In Mazayes Basse, at the crossroads after the wash house, turn right and immediately right onto the small road that climbs uphill. Continue straight ahead, leaving a path on your left, and at the next crossroads (sports ground on your left), go straight ahead.
(9) At the Y-junction, turn right, follow Le Petit Chambois, pass a junction (D62) and continue towards Le Grand Chambois.
(10) At the crossroads, turn left, leave a street on your right, and at the roundabout, turn right.
(11) At the three-way intersection, turn right onto Le Grand Chambois and continue along this road.
(12) At the T-junction, turn left and continue for approximately 250 metres. Turn right onto the second road to enter the forest and follow the well-marked main road.
(13) At a fork, take the road on the right
(14) At the next crossroads, follow the road on the left. Further on, leave a road on your right.
(15) At the next crossroads, turn right until you reach the D559.
(16) Leave the forest and turn right onto the D559 for 100 metres. Leave the road and turn left. Enter the woods and follow the white on green or WE markings. Pass two paths on the right and one on the left.
(17) At the next crossroads, go up the path on the left. This is squirrel heaven! Continue uphill, ignoring the paths on the right and left, and go around the clearing on the left.
(18) Turn right at the end of the clearing. About 700m further on, do not take the first path on the left, continue for about 100m.
(19) Turn left, ignore the three paths on the right and continue until you reach a stone fountain.
(20) Turn right at the fountain and continue climbing up Chemin des Chèvres. Take the steps and follow the road that leads to the esplanade, and you're at Puy de Dôme!
(21) Begin the descent towards the Col de Ceyssat via the Chemin des Muletiers, cross the road and the railway line, and continue downhill.
(22) At the Col de Ceyssat, take the D68 on the right towards Ceyssat, where you leave the green on white or WE markings.
(23) At the right-hand bend, leave the road and go straight ahead. Enter the forest and take the path on the rightGR®441A(white and red markings). Ignore all paths on the right and left.
(24) At the crossroads, turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach the D52, ignoring the side roads. Continue right on the D52, leaving a road on your left.
(25) At the crossroads opposite the castle, leave the D52, turn left and pass the cemetery. Continue on the right, enter Allagnat via Rue Saint-Martin, cross the village and head for the car park (S/E).
The itinerary is very well signposted.
