Description of the walk

Depart from Boigneville station, accessible from Gare de Lyon station, RER D towards Malesherbes.

(S/E) With your back to the station, go through a small gate that leads to the Chemin Rural de Boigneville à Maisse. Take the path on the right into the woods, following the railway line and the red and white markings of the GR®655 East.

(1) Continue straight ahead, pass the Saint-Val road maintenance building, cross the Velvette via the Route d'Argeville and enter the woods.

(2) Continue straight ahead with the GR® to go around the Marais de Boigneville, then enter Argeville.

(3) Cross the hamlet via a narrow street, then continue straight ahead until you reach the Essonne river, which you will leave on your left. Continue through the woods on Route d'Argeville for a good kilometre.

(4) At the three-way junction at the entrance to the hamlet of Touvaux, keep left, cross the hamlet and continue between woods and fields.

(5) Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths that branch off to the left and right, and enter the woods with the GR®1 and GR®655 East, skirting the Marais de Touvaux.

(6) Continue straight ahead on the same path, following the Essonne river on your left.

(7) Enter Rouville by taking the road on the left and, at the last houses, continue straight ahead through the undergrowth: there is a sign prohibiting motor vehicles. Go to the road, cross it and continue straight ahead on the Chemin de Rouville: there is a chapel and castle on your left.

(8) Continue straight ahead to enter the woods, leaving the paths on either side.

(9) Cross the Coulée Verte, continue straight ahead on Chemin de Rouville, which becomes Impasse de la Martillière. Enter Malesherbes.

(10) At the no entry sign, continue left onto Rue de la Martillière, then right onto Rue de Soisy. Pass Place du Martroy and continue to the fountain.

(11) Take Rue Saint-Martin on the left. Go down this street, pass in front of the Town Hall and Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, then in front of the Jardin du Noyer. Continue towards the Church of Saint-Martin.

(12) Pass the building and arrive at the cemetery.

(13) Turn left onto Rue de la Passerelle, cross the D948 with caution and continue straight ahead. Cross the river and take the road on the left.

(14) Turn right to cross the bridge over the Essonne and follow the small tributary. Pass the water treatment plant and arrive at the road called Rue des Roches.

(15) Turn left and join the D152.

(16) Cross it carefully ( no pedestrian crossing) and first turn right then left to join Rue de Villetard. Continue to the three-way junction at the pumping station.

(17) Turn right onto Rue Saint-Agnan, then veer right to follow Chemin du Haut de Villetard until you reach the intersection with the road you left at the water treatment plant.

(18) Turn right onto Rue de Villiers and continue to the three-way junction after the right-hand bend.

(19) Turn left onto Chemin de la Brèche as you enter the woods. At the end of this street, turn left onto Rue de la Grange aux Dîmes, passing in front of the Nanteau-sur-Essonne Town Hall. Pass the entrance to the church on your right, continue for about 50 metres, then take the path on the right that passes in front of the church and the cemetery.

(20) Just after this, take a path on the left and you will come to a road. Follow this for a few dozen metres, keeping in the same direction. Turn left onto Chemin de Paillard between the woods and fields and continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction.

(21) Turn left and go down to a road. Follow it to the right and you will reach a fork at the southern tip of a meadow.

(22) Stay on the road, pass Moulin Paillard and start walking in a straight line.

(23) Leave the road and take a path on the left. Walk along a pond, pass a castle on your right and reach Chantambre.

(24) Take the road on the left to the bridge over the Essonne at Moulin Roijau.

(25) Continue along the road towards Courcelles. Turn left at the crossroads to return to the station (S/E).

A few interesting spots, but overall a disappointing hike as it lacked variety and, above all, involved far too much tarmac (around two-thirds of the route)
