The Calvaire walk from the Abbaye du Désert

(S/E) From the starting point at the Abbaye Sainte-Marie du Désert shop, follow the main path which gently winds off to the right into the countryside. The route is wide and easy.

(1) You’ll soon reach the workshop, then take the small path on the left leading towards the fields from the main road. The path climbs slightly. Follow the Way of the Cross, in a calm and soothing atmosphere. You’ll arrive at the junction with the Chemin des Poules.

(2) Continue to the right towards the Calvary.

(3) Once you reach the top of the route (the highest point of the Calvary), enjoy the view and the peaceful surroundings before beginning the descent along the same path.

(2) Turn right after the bend. The terrain becomes flat and easy to walk on again. Continue until you reach the road. Follow it slightly to the right for 5 metres and turn left onto a small path that leads into a pleasant, shaded wooded area.

(4) Cross a small stream (take care depending on conditions). Continue along the obvious path and cross the plain known as the "Scouts' Plain". Admire an old stone fountain on the left, at the end of this plain. Return to the main road opposite the abbey’s surrounding walls. Then turn left. Discover the chapel, a highlight of the walk. A perfect spot for a break. Stroll back to the starting point to complete the circular route, savouring the famous abbey biscuit or croquant at the shop (S/E).
