Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the MIEL (Maison Intercommunale de l'enfance et des loisirs) at 36 Rue des Eygras, 90300 Offemont.
Please note the car park's closing times.

(S/E) Turn right to quickly reach the Sentier de la Roselière trail.

(1) Continue straight ahead after crossing several footbridges.

(2) After passing through the log barrier, turn right onto the path that enters the small wood to reach the edge of the Étang des Forges. At the water sports centre buildings, go up the side road along the edge of the road, cross Rue de la Division Blindée and continue opposite along Chemin de la Tour. After the vegetable gardens, continue up the path that winds through the woods to reach the foot of the Miotte Tower.
Beautiful panoramic view. Alternatively, you can take a short detour through the tunnel that leads to the viewpoint above and then back down to the crossroads.

(3) Continue straight ahead, following the fortifications. Narrow passage, protected by a log barrier. The path continues along the ridge in the woods and, after a quick descent, crosses the road leading to Denney. Climb the few steps and follow the wide stone path. You will arrive at the esplanade of the Monument du Maquis du Chérimont.

(4) Turn right onto a forest path that follows the edge of the woods. This leads to another path, the Forts hiking trail.

(5) Take it to the left. Just behind, admire the old fortifications. At the edge of the woods, cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de la Femme to reach the first houses on Rue du Pâquis and the cycle path.

(6) At the cycle path, continue straight on Rue du Pâquis until you reach the D22, turn right and head for the wash house. After the wash house, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine, which leads into the Bois de Vétrigne.

(7) When you reach the forest track, turn 90° to the left, follow it for 400 metres and take the path on the right. After 200 metres, turn left. The Anneau Rouge markings will be very useful. Continue south-west to reach the first houses of Offemont via Rue du Soiras and the roundabout on the D22, Rue Aristide Briand.

(8) Turn right, pass in front of the church and turn left onto Rue de la Gare, which joins the cycle path on Rue Étienne Weisch. Take the cycle path on the right for 300 metres and turn left onto Rue des Eyras, which will take you back to the MIEL car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

The Roselière Trail:
The trail circles the pond, passing through remarkable wetlands: you could almost believe you were in the heart of the Louisiana bayous. Here you will find flora typical of these environments, where many water birds come to feed and nest, as well as dragonflies, amphibians, etc. This area is listed by the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO).

Étang des Forges:
Covering an area of 30 hectares, the Étang des Forges was created in the Middle Ages for fish farming. In the 19th century, it became a water reserve for industry, and today it is a popular leisure site for the people of Belfort.

The Tower and Fort of La Miotte:
Located on the hill of the same name in the Jura mountains, it was long the main symbol of the city before being supplanted by the Lion of Belfort; however, it remains an emblem of the city today. It was destroyed in 1945 during the Second World War and rebuilt in 1947.

The Chérimont Maquis Monument.
During the summer of 1944, German troops were harassed by local resistance fighters who ambushed them. Faced with the advance of the Allies, the Kommandantur decided to eliminate the local resistance fighters. On 22 September, a group of 20 people were taken prisoner by the Gestapo in the Chérimont maquis (near Haute-Saône). They were taken to the edge of the Bromont Forest before being cowardly murdered. The burial mound was not discovered until 1945. A monument was inaugurated in 1946.

A very pleasant hike despite the cool weather conditions (December); beautiful views from the top of the Miotte tower overlooking the Forges lake! Very good signposting throughout the route.
Moderate level justified, not recommended for very young children in our opinion.

The route description is very good. Just one small negative point is the crossing of Vétrigne.
But it's still a beautiful hike.

A beautiful, varied route between Offemont, the Étang des Forges lake, the view of Belfort from the Tour de la Miotte tower and beautifully maintained woods.
A lovely afternoon; we are delighted to discover the surroundings of our village.
Thank you all

Hello,

My husband and I didn't want to travel miles to get to the surrounding mountains.
We opted for a quasi-urban walk that allowed us to discover some pretty spots, close to villages but
quickly far from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Highly recommended, suitable for families who are reasonably fit.
Thanks to the organiser;
Latristesse.
