The walk starts at the church in Monthieux
(S/E). Go around the church and cross the main road to reach Rue de la Croix opposite.
At the crossroads, at the exit of the housing estate, continue straight ahead on the dirt track. When you reach another crossroads with a signpost,
(1) Turn right towards Le Montant. Continue along this path, which turns into a tarmac road. At the crossroads with a dirt track, stay on the tarmac road, then a few metres further on, at the next crossroads, continue straight ahead on Rue du Maréage.
(2) Then turn left onto the dirt track that climbs up to the signpost.
(3) Turn right towards Lombouet and continue for about 100 metres until you reach the signpost.
(4) Turn left onto the dirt track and follow the signs for "Bois Volet".
At the new signpost, turn right onto the dirt track, still heading towards the observatory, and continue straight ahead on this track until you reach the D82.
(5) Cross the departmental road and continue straight ahead. Pass the first pond on your left (l'Étang Rat) and continue through the woods until you reach a crossroads.
(6) At the signpost, turn left to reach Étang Grange Volet and its observatory. The observatory offers a beautiful view of the pond, where several rare species nest in summer.
(7) Retrace your steps back to the signpost.
(6) Continue straight ahead towards Monthieux.
Follow the path with Étang de Vernange on your left until you reach a place called "Mion".
(8) At the Mion signpost, turn right and follow the road to the village.
(9) At the village pond, turn left to return to the starting point. As you climb, there is a beautiful view of the village pond on your left (S/E).
