When you arrive at La Vernarède, go down the main street to the park and turn slightly right until you reach a square with parking spaces, which is the starting point.
(S/E) Take the path that climbs up opposite the square. It is marked in yellow and indicates "l'ancien puits" (the old well), referring to the old mine shaft, as La Vernarède is a former mining village.
Walk along this path for about ten minutes and look for an old chimney on the left.
(1) Walk past it, leaving the few houses on your left, and continue along the main path marked in yellow.
The track is a DFCI path that will take you, via several hairpin bends, to the signpost for the old mine shaft.
(2) Turn right at the hairpin bend towards Vernarède departure and continue to follow the yellow markings until you reach a fork.
(3) Continue straight ahead towards the Route Forestière des Terres Noires, which continues in a series of hairpin bends. The track ends at the village cemetery, and from there you will have to walk mostly on the road.
(4) Follow the tarmac road, pass the cemetery and you will soon arrive at the village church, which is in rather poor condition despite the efforts of an association working to restore it.
(5) After the church, leave the road and take a narrow dirt track slightly to the right, which will take you back to another road.
(6) Follow it, turning left and passing a large cross on your right. Continue along the road until you reach a fairly sharp bend that descends to the right.
(7) Continue along this main street through the village and do not cross the bridge, but go around the park, keeping to the right, to reach the small square (S/E).
