Iver walks

This section of our walk starts at Datchet Railway Station. It is 14.75 miles and takes in Datchet Village, the Jubilee River, Dorney, Maidenhead Riverside, Dorney Lake, Boveney, the Thames Path, Eton High Street and Windsor Bridge. It is the longest of the five sections, but is flat and easy to follow.

The Freedom Trail is a long distance path, designed to link places associated with these and other events in our history, and how they would form a blue-print for the world we know today. I'm not really an historian or a walker, but through a few other projects I have been involved with, I thought this would be something interesting to do. The path is 64 miles long.

The first section of the walk starts at Wraysbury station. It is 13.15 miles and takes in Wraysbury, Ankerwycke, Church Lammas, St Mary's Church, Duncroft Manor, Staines Moor, central Staines-upon-Thames, Staines riverside, The Hythe, Thames Path, Runnymede, Old Windsor and Datchet.

This section of our walk starts is 11.4 miles. It starts at Windsor & Eton Riverside Station and takes in Windsor Castle, The Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, Three Castles Path, Virginia Water, Valley Gardens, Savill Garden and Englefield Green.

The route follows the Thames Path all the way. At times the path can be narrow, so be aware. The route crosses Windsor Bridge to Eton, then turns left to follow the Thames Path past Boveney, Dorney Lake. Oakley Court and Bray Studios are soon visible across the river. Next is Bray Lock, then through Maidenhead, and Cookham to Bourne End.

This circular long distance path has access points that are easily reached by train from London, Reading and adjoining stations. If time is limited it can be walked in sections at weekends and bank holidays with one or two overnight stops. The walk passes through a variety of beautiful countryside including river valleys, chalk downland, coniferous forests, rare heath, and beech woods that are carpeted with bluebells in spring.

The 1rst sections of this walk follow The Three Castles Path, a long distance route inspired by the 13th century journeys undertaken by King John between his castles at Windsor, Odiham and Winchester

Scenic Burnham Beeches National Nature Reserve is owned by the City of London. They describe it as one of Europeʼs most important places for wildlife. Burnham Beeches is particularly colourful in spring and autumn, but well worth a visit at any time of year.

This route will take you to see historic buildings, modern engineering projects and film locations, before finishing with a stroll along the peaceful and tranquil Thames.

Mostly towpath and parkland, there is a lot to see on this stage, so start early. The route crosses Staines Bridge, then follows the Thames before crossing the road at Runnymede.

This section of our walk starts at Englefield Green. It is 13.35 miles long and takes in Englefield Green, Runnymede Memorials, Egham, The Causeway, Staines Riverside, the Thames Path, Laleham, Chertsey Bridge, Shepperton Riverside, Shepperton Ferry, Desborough Cut, Walton Bridge and Walton-on-Thames.

This short but varied walk starts from an historic farm, enjoys sweeping views and looks at some important local history. There's also the chance to explore nature in Philipshill and "No Dragon" woods. You can finish the walk with some of the best cake in the area.

This is the first section of a 12 mile walking route which follows the River Pinn from Pinner to Uxbridge. Of all Middlesex's 'lost rivers' the River Pinn is perhaps the most visible.

This is a short urban walk exploring another of the 'lost landscapes of Middlesex'. The Yeading Brook rises at Headstone Manor and can be tracked all the way to Ruislip Gardens. This walk starts and finishes in West Harrow, and follows the most attractive section of the river through two pretty linear parks : The Yeading Brook Open Space and Streamside Recreation Ground.

This walk gives you the opportunity to experience the abundance of wildlife in the beautiful Colne Valley across many different types of habitat. It’s a wonderful location for all ages to explore and enjoy with the possibility of spotting rare migrating birds.

This walk starts at Ricky Aquadrome with its 3 lakes and goes along a delightful stretch of the River Chess, through Whippendell Woods (particularly nice in mid April when the bluebells are out), to Cassiobury Park with its 2 cafes and voted one of the 10 best parks in Britain and along short stretches of the River Gade and Grand Union Canal. Do allow plenty of time for exploring the many interesting features on this walk.

A lovely walk that passes through woods and farmland with pleasant distant views. You can visit Chiltern Open Air Museum and Milton’s Cottage. Note there is currently a temporary diversion in place (since May 2022) which prevents entry into Newlands Park whilst development work is undertaken. This description includes the diversion.

This is a short urban walk exploring the 'lost landscapes of Middlesex'. I was recently introduced to a secret park which I never knew about, and realised this must be the summit of the original Sudbury Hill before it was swallowed up under the tide of suburban housing. The walk visits Elm Park and also takes you past the Harrow School sports fields. It starts and finishes near Harrow School, Harrow-on-the-Hill.

This walk visits Rickmansworth and Croxley Green, whose current size and character owe much to the arrival of the Metropolitan Railway. The varied route includes woodland, fields, a moor designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a village green, rivers and a canal.

An interesting walk along the Duke of Northumberland’s river from the Meadway in Twickenham, through old Isleworth, to Syon Park. The attractions in Syon Park include the house and gardens and one of the largest Garden Centres in the country. A short extension to Kew Bridge following a brief section of the Grand Union Canal with its docks and then the Thames, is included. The Musical Museum and London Museum of Water & Steam can be seen on this section. Return is made by bus or train.

An easy walk that climbs to the ridge on which Penn stands. Stroll through quiet woods and fields visiting the newly planted Jubilee Wood and the village of Penn with its ancient church and historic inns.

This beautiful walk takes you from the outskirts of Watford into the depths of the countryside to see a host of wild flowers.

This walk along the River Chess starts from Little Chalfont in Buckinghamshire and walks east through pleasant surroundings before turning west to Chenies and a return to the start.

This Chilterns walk takes in parts of the Chess Valley walk at the start and end of the route and a section of the Chiltern Way in between. There is a variety of scenery with undulating landscapes, pastoral scenes of grazing animals, fields of wild flowers in summer, a cricket pitch, a golf course, a quarry, two churches and the shallow chalk stream of the River Chess.

This circular walk is very peaceful and part of the Chess Valley Walk. The short walk from Chalfont & Latimer station will take you through neat Metroland streets, with mock 1930’s Tudor jostling with Art Deco suburban dwellings within easy reach of London and the countryside. Hemmed in on all sides by the pressures of London and urban overspill, the charming Chess Valley is a haven of solitude in outstanding Chilterns countryside.

The route crosses the River Thames, going firstly north for half a mile to the Fordbridge Roundabout, then east thru' Lower Sunbury, past the Hampton Waterworks and through Hampton Village. We then follow a scenic route through Bushy Park and finish in the middle of the maze in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. It's a bit of a strange way to finish the walk, but you'll enjoy the scenery and the places you pass on route.

This stile-free walk explores the picturesque Chess Valley and the pretty village of Chenies with its Tudor manor house, 15th century church and village green. It climbs to Church End, Sarratt, passing through the churchyard of the 12th century church. There are fine views of the valley and the River Chess.

The last section of our walk starts is 11.1 miles. It starts at St Mary's Church at Walton-on-Thames and takes in the Thames Path, Hurst Park, Hampton Ferry, Hampton Village, Bushy Park, Hampton Wick, Kingston-upon-Thames and follows the Thames Path upstream to finish at Hampton Court Palace.

This is an interesting walk through Bushy Park to Hampton Court Bridge and then following the rivers Mole and Ember to Molesey Heath. The walk continues through Field Common and West End Common to end in beautiful woods beyond Esher. There is then the option to visit the National Trust gardens at Claremont or continuing to Oxshott. Waterproof footwear is strongly advised.

A tough walk through the rolling Chiltern Hills taking in Chess Valley Walk, Chilterns Way and Hertfordshire Way. Starts in Old Amersham, near St Mary's Church. Big climb up to pass Martyrs Memorial on the hill above Amersham, then through Chiltern Forest, Latimer, Flaunden and Chipperfield Common to finish at the Two Brewers Inn, Chipperfield.

An interesting walk on good paths following the route of the royal procession from Ascot through Windsor Great Park and offering a 'surprise' view of Windsor Castle.

Easy, albeit long, 26km run through the Chiltern hills. Note there is a nice coffee shop in the church in Little Kingshill, which can be good stop for refreshment along the way (not open on Sundays). Hyde Heath is also good for a pitstop, so you don't need to carry much water/snacks. If you do it in the direction indicated, there is not much climbing at the end. Otherwide, the hill from the River Misborne into Amersham-on-the-hill is tough at the end of a long run.

An undulating walk through woodland and arable farmland, via Penn House Estate, Common Wood and Penn Wood.

Spend the day in London without feeling in London with this Thames Path Walk from Hampton Court Palace to Kew. Wander alongside the River Thames, from the quiet towpath to the busy suburbs riverside, passing by landmarks such as bridges and gardens. With a pub recommendation at the end, you’ve got your perfect day out in West London sorted!

The Green Belt Way is a 238.4 mile long distance path around London's green belt. It meanders through beautiful countryside and passes many interesting sites. Described here are some of the landmarks and history of the places you pass on the walk.

The start is inside the main entrance to Hampton Court Palace. The leg is mainly on the Thames Path and flat. It crosses the Thames at two points, Hampton Court and Walton Bridges. Diverts on road, through Lower Halliford, Old Shepperton and then again along the Thames, past, Shepperton, Chertsey and Penton Hook Locks to finish at Staines Pier and behind Staines Town Hall.

This leisurely linear walk takes you along the edge of Shardeloes Lake with its many water birds and past the imposing Shardeloes Manor. It continues through fields by the River Misbourne with an optional extension to the picturesque village of Little Missenden with its ancient church, manor house, and pubs.
