Lachanau Northern Circular Route
On the shores of Lake Hourtin, the hamlet of Lachanau, situated 2 km from the village of Hourtin, consists of small plots of land on which makeshift structures have been built. People from Bordeaux used to rent properties here to be close to the lake. Now, permanent buildings and beautiful wooden houses have been added on the shores of a lovely beach by France’s largest natural lake, set amidst the primeval forest.
Return route along the western shore of Lake Hourtin and Carcans
A feast for the eyes along the western shore of Lake Hourtin and Carcans, following theGR®8and GRE9 trails, with several beaches perfect for swimming.
Important notes for the entire route: never climb over the fences; these are barriers made of acacia stakes belonging to the Water and Forestry Department. Fires are prohibited.
Circular Hourtin and Contaut lagoon via the ridges.
Hiking in the Contaut lagoon via trails through the dunes, marshes and forests. Beautiful views of the Étang de Contaut and Lac de Hourtin. Discover the flora and fauna, paths and trails with some elevation changes and some sandy sections.
The Gracieuse trail (Bombannes - Hourtin)
In all seasons, Lac de Carcans Hourtin (the largest natural lake in France, 18 km long and 5 km wide) inspires tranquillity. We take the old La Gracieuse cycle path, which is unfortunately now in poor condition. It runs alongside theGR®8, the Way of St James, and leads from the Bombannes base to the tip of La Gracieuse on the western shore of the lake.
Naujac-sur-Mer circular via Le Pin Sec
A walk through a pine forest, returning via the beach. The route follows a section of the Way of St James.
Depending on the time of year, be mindful of high tide and tidal coefficients.
The Atlantic Wall trail at Carcans Plage
The Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall in German) is an extensive system of coastal fortifications built by the Third Reich during the Second World War along the western coast of Europe to prevent an invasion of the continent by the Allies from Great Britain.
This walking trail follows the concrete road that served the blockhouses, which were used as forward posts.
Via the archaeological site of Brion in Saint-Germain-d'Esteuil
With the only Gallo-Roman theatre south of the Garonne, the archaeological site of Brion is unique and unmissable. This hike will allow you to tour the commune of Saint-Germain-d'Esteuil and discover the ruins and Roman theatre of the Brion site.
Cissac-Médoc Fortified Castles Circular Tour
Known for its vineyards and wines, the Médoc is a land steeped in history dating back to ancient times. This hike allows you to discover the medieval fortresses of this region.
From the commune of Saint-Sauveur, you will cross the Médoc vineyards to reach the châteaux of Breuil, Lamothe-Cissac and Fontesteau. These three properties date back to the Middle Ages and even further.

Circular in the Lacanau National Forest
Most of the route consists of forest paths with a few sections on the road and cycle path. The hard surfaces are welcome as walking in the sand is tiring. You can enjoy views of the Étang du Cousseau and the Marais de Talaris with its flora and fauna. Le Moutchic and its calm waters, sailing boats, picnic spots and swimming areas. Finally, the ocean, with its rough waters that are perfect for surfers.

This circular route around Montalivet will allow you to discover the different facets of this seaside town. It avoids sandy tracks and is therefore accessible all year round.
Castillon Viscounty Circular
Starting from the church in Saint-Izan-de-Médoc, this circular route takes you around the former viscountcy of Castillon, which in the Middle Ages had the privilege and exclusive right to trade wine from the Médoc to England. It will allow you to appreciate the unique natural features of this part of the Médoc.
The Tour de By circular in Bégadan
Bégadan is a very old commune, both a wine-growing area and facing the Gironde estuary. This walking route, running alongside the vineyards and the estuary, offers some truly beautiful panoramic views. In particular, when open, the climb to the top of the Tour de By offers a most fascinating 360° view.
Warning: do not use this route during spring tides, as part of it runs very close to the Gironde.
