Simplon Hospice - Zwischbergen

(S) From the Hospice de Simplon, cross the road to the pass and head for the Hotel Monte Leone, easily recognisable by its cylindrical shape.
Signposting: Stockalperweg and SFT Yellow.

(1) Head behind the Hotel Monte Leone and take the path heading south. Follow this historic route of the Via Stockalper, which is very well signposted. Pass through Alter Spittel, Nideralp, Engi and Maschihüs, where the path runs alongside the pass road.

(2) Shortly after Maschihüs, stay on the Stockalperweg and continue south towards Egga.

(3) At Egga, leave the old Simplon road and stay on the Stockalperweg to reach the entrance to Simplon Dorf.

(4) Enter the village of Simplon via the Alte Simplonstrasse and quickly reach the centre.
Leave the village by continuing along Stockalperweg until you reach a passage under the main road to the Simplon Pass.

(5) Follow the Stockalperweg and rejoin the pass road at Gstein, a small hamlet near Gabi.

(6) Cross the Simplon Pass road with caution and descend to a path along the Laggina torrent
Via Alpina and SFT yellow markings.
Turn south at the Laggina torrent and follow it to a bridge.
Via Alpina and SFT red and white markings.
Cross the Laggina and begin the climb towards Furggu through alpine meadows and pastures. Arrive at the small Furggu Pass topped by a cross.

(7) Begin the descent towards Zwisbergen and reach the road that leads to the village.

(8) Turn right onto the road and walk to the Berggasthaus Zwischbergen (E).
