Description of the walk

Start: Buttermere National Trust car park Grid ref. NY 172 172

(S/E) Exit the car park and turn right on the road to walk towards Buttermere village. Cross the bridge and stay on the main road. At the church turn left to walk on Newlands Pass. After a couple of meters, turn right on the path going up. Keep on this path going up to High Snockrigg. Slightly detour from the main path to reach the cairn.

(1) At the cairn, walk back towards the main path then turn right and right again (leaving the path going to Robinson) to walk towards Goat Gills. (Path is not really visible and can be very boggy as this area is a marsh). Walk South until reaching a gap in the fence. Cross the fence.

(2) Turn right to walk down following Hassnesshow Beck. (This path is very steep). Walk down until reaching the road. Cross the road and continue straight on the path to reach the shore of Buttermere lake.

(3) At the shore turn right and keep following the shore of Buttermere lake. Ignore the first path on the right going to the village and continue straight along Buttermere lake until seeing a path on the right.

(4) Turn right to walk toward the village. At the intersection with the main road B5289, turn left to cross the bridge. Then walk on the main road until the car park (S/E)
