Long walk in the Moyeuvre-Grande State Forest

A circular route mainly through woodland, following an old forest road (closed to traffic) in the Moyeuvre-Grande State Forest, starting from the Tréhémont farm and passing through Moyeuvre-Petite. The final climb up to the plateau and the Tréhémont farm is quite a challenge: fairly steep and long.

Description of the walk

Park at the Ferme du Tréhémont car park (equestrian centre – access via Moyeuvre-Grande)

(S/E) From the car park at this equestrian centre, take the unpaved track that runs to the left of the farm, crosses the horse paddocks and then continues into the forest.

(1) Ignore the path on the left and continue along the Route Forestière de Tréhémont until you reach the junction known as the Cinq Chemins (hunters’ lodge on the left).

(2) Take the unpaved track on the left – a long, undulating straight stretch known as the Route Forestière du Grand Roulis – until you reach the Hêtres Pourpres car park.

(3) Turn onto the track that veers sharply to the left and follow it until you descend back to the village of Moyeuvre-Petite, then walk through the village for about a hundred metres.

(4) Turn onto the first road on the left. This leads to the path that climbs up to the Tréhémont plateau to rejoin the forest road taken on the way out.

(1) Head up to the right and, following the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey, return to the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant route through the forest.
As the paths are often long, straight stretches, you really need to enjoy walking.

The end is a real highlight, with a climb of around 800m over 1km and an elevation gain of 120–130, which is brilliant

I’d definitely recommend this route.

A classic forest route.
There is no shade between point 1 and point 2.
The route is fairly flat.
Between point 3 and point 4, the route descends for quite a long distance and is shaded, making it very pleasant.
But where there’s a ‘descent’, there’s a ‘climb’ to get back to the starting point, and this one is quite steep and goes on for quite a long way.
It’s best to go at your own pace!
Enjoy your walk!

First of all, we couldn’t find the starting point on your map; you should have specified that access to the Tréhémont farm (equestrian centre) is via Moyeuvre Gde.
So we set off on foot from Petite Moyeuvre; the climb was a bit steep to reach the fitness trail (or what’s left of it) and finally the farm’s car park. By then it was too late to do the planned route.
Nevertheless, it’s something to try again next time; the area and the forest look lovely.
