Description

(S) From Brandling Villa, cross the bridge over Oseburn then turn right into Freeman Road.

(1) Take the footpath opposite Lilburn Gardens, this is clearly signed River Tyne and with the Northern Saints Trail marker. This footpath follows the course of Ouseburn into Jesmond Dene.

(2) Keep to the lower path along the northern edge of Ouseburn. When you reach Castle Farm Road bridge, take the steps up and then back down at the other side of the bridge following the Northern Saints Trail marker. You will come to Jesmond Dene Falls and the Old Mill, cross the bridge over Ouseburnand turn left past the toilets. At the far side of the picnic area, cross the bridge and continue following the footpath along the north side of Ouseburn again. This becomes Red Walk. If you continue to follow Red Walk, you will need to climb the steps at the bridge and cross back over Red Walk and Ouseburn, if you take the upper footpath, this will continue at the same level as the bridge.

(3) When you have crossed the bridge, turn left and walk around the back of the Banqueting Hall. This footpath will take you under Jesmond Dene Road and through a wooded area containing the ruins of St Mary's Chapel. When you emerge onto Reid Park Road, turn left and then right into The Grove. This road will become a footpath passing St Mary;s Well. At the end of The Grove, turn left Osborne Terrace.

(4) Continue down Osborne Road until you reach Clayton Road, cross the railway bridge and then turn left into Eslington Terrace. Continue until you reach Jesmond Metro Station.

(5) Follow the footpath around the back of Jesmond Metro Station, pass Jesmond Parish Church and tennis courts on your right, then walk under the central motorway turning left into Jesmond Road West at the other side of the motorway. At the end of Jesmond Road West join the cycle path towards the city centre. You will pass Newcastle Civic Centre, The Renwick War Memorial, 1914 Statue, Civic Centre Gardens and St Thomas' Chcurch. Behond this is the Haymarket Metro Station where the walk ends (E).
