Description der Wandertour

(S) From the junction of Killingworth Avenue and Backworth Lane, follow Backworth Lane (B1322) in a westerly direction away from the village. The walk follows the Tyne and Wear Heritage Trail so look out for the black and white disks with HW on them.

(1) You will pass West Farm on your right and round a bend next to the A19, just beyond this bend, take the cycle path on your left, this includes Burradon Tower, the next point of interest.

(2) When you reach the intersection of the tracks, turn right towards Burradon House and Tower.

(3) Carry straight on then turn left at Burradon House, ensure you check out the tower and then continue on the farm road past the farm buildings.

(4) At the road junction with B1505, turn immediately left onto the cycle path, you will see a clear sign saying Waggonway. Continue past the sports ground (right) and the pond (left).

(5) When you reach the metal sculpture with the train tracks on it, turn left between the wood posts. Take one of the paths around the pond in a southerly direction and join the track behind the houses, turning in an easterly direction. When you reach the roundabout, follow Killingworth Way (A1056) in an easterly direction towards the A19. This is a busy road so cross using the pedestrian crossing by the roundabout.

(6) At the farm shop, turn right taking the path to your right just through the gate. follow this path along the back of the houses. The sports ground will be on your left and then a school on your right. The path goes under the road here, continue to follow the path in a southerly direction.

(7) At the second road junction with East Bailey, leave the path which goes under the road and take the path that leads up to the road itself. Turn right and walk along East Bailey to the large roundabout. Turn left at the roundabout and walk to Killingworth Lake where the walk ends (E).
