Departure from La Combe - do not go to Lioux, the old village below the Madeleine cliff - park in the car park opposite the Place du Monument aux Morts.
(S/E) Take the first street on the right after the monument, towards Le Château/Parrotier. Pass the school and leave the path on the right, which will be the return route.
(1) After about 100 metres, turn right, heading north, onto a fairly wide, stony path towards Bezaure.
(2) Leave a path that branches off to the right, heading north, and disappears into a valley. Turn slightly left, continuing to follow thePR® north-northwest towards the Bezaure Forest.
(3) When you reach the first fruit tree fields, join theGR® 911 and follow it to the right until you return to the Combe. On the left, theGR® joins the Vaumale Gorges.
(4) On the right is the small hamlet of Escumadou, with two or three houses. Turn right and climb up to Castellas, a ruined castle that is well worth a visit (about a quarter of an hour's walk). The path is easy to follow once you have found the start. As you enter the forest, it is marked by a small cairn on the left.
(5) From the castle, there is a magnificent view of the gorges. It is a beautiful spot for a picnic. Descend to Escumadou via the same path.
(4) Continue right towards the gorges (sign at the entrance).
(6) Leave theGR® heading north and turn right to descend the gorges to Lioux la Combe. The descent of the gorge is narrow in places but there is no risk of getting lost. The route to the exit is marked with tape and a sign. The most delicate passages are best done sitting down or holding on with your hands, but nothing too difficult.
(7) Upon arrival in Lioux, the continuation of the gorge is blocked by a private property sign and a plastic construction tape: at this point, turn right to return to the starting point (S/E). We exited on the left and walked around the neighbourhood (approximately 300 metres) to return to our starting point
