Goeulzin via Petite Sensée river

This family trail follows the trails of the Petite Sensée, a small river at the gateway to the Douais urban area, winding through the village of Goeulzin.
Easy to navigate, it can be enjoyed all year round, but in wet weather you'll need to wear waterproof footwear.

Description of the walk

Start from Goeulzin church.

(S) Leave the church and, to the right of the war memorial, take Rue Charles Lefebvre. Note the porch inscribed "B. Asserie" - 1832.

(1) Turn right into Rue du Marais. This street takes you outside the village to the Petite Sensée.

(2) After crossing the river, follow it to the right. You may be lucky enough to spot a kingfisher lying in wait at the water's edge, or skimming along the current.

(3) After 550m, leave the river and turn left onto a path through the woods.

(4) At the stadium, turn left and, via a staircase, reach the Canal de la Sensée. Turn left onto the towpath. Pass under the bridge and leave the canal by turning left, crossing the Moulinel and rejoining the D135.

(5) On the D135, turn right at the stop sign for 150m (be careful), then left at the crossroads onto the dirt track.

(6) Cross the D65 and follow the footpath straight ahead, then turn into the first footpath on the right. When you reach the road, turn left and go straight on to find the church (E).

It's a very pretty route with different viewpoints, and it's easy for a family - personally, we had an elderly person with us. Absolutely worth doing again!

A lovely walk, well signposted, easy to do with family or friends. You can picnic near the magnificent lake. I chatted to a hiker I passed, the fishermen and a man who was watering his tomatoes. Everything went really well. It was very pleasant.

A very pleasant little hike along the water's edge, with no particular difficulties and I can confirm the previous reviews, no stadiums or steps, just follow the path, no way to go wrong.

A very good walk, very well signposted and without any particular difficulty.
I can also confirm that there are no stadiums or steps, just turn left at the end of the path and you'll never go wrong.
It's also possible to go through the forest as there's a path that runs parallel to the Hallage path a little further on after the lock. It's also pleasant and you're still just a few steps from the waterside path.
Thank you for a very pleasant walk.

A pleasant walk, not too long for people with minor joint problems like me;
In fact, there are no stadiums or steps as indicated in the description: you just walk along a field and a wood before turning left onto the hallage path, but it's impossible to get lost anyway.
A very pleasant little stretch along the Petite Sensée river.
At the end we tried a little diversions to the Cantin lake, which is really very close (the path runs almost parallel to the last section on the way back), but it's not accessible: closed gates enclose a park around it, but is it too early in the season? it was Sunday 8 April, when most of the parks were open, but there was no signposting... pity...
Thank you for describing this walk!

trust the map rather than the description, as you can look for the stadium for a long time

It really is a great walk. Bucolic as you follow the little Sensée, fluvial as you join the "big one" and rural at the end. However, be careful, after the undergrowth the stadium has become a field of turnips and the steps no longer exist, but if you follow the route on the map, there's no problem.
