Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Valdrôme resort.

(S/E) Retrace your steps along the access road and turn onto the first track on the left. Continue for a few dozen metres.

(1) Take the path on the right between the track and the road. Stay on this path through the woods, which runs parallel to the road. If you miss it, you can rejoin it 400 m further on, on the right. Continue to a crossroads.

(2) Take the second path on the right. You will come out onto a forest track. Follow it to the right for about 100 metres.

(3) Leave the track and turn left to climb the path that runs parallel to it. Pass the Pré Pourri hut and keep left at the fork that appears shortly afterwards. Continue to the next intersection.

(4) Take the ridge trail on the left that climbs towards Sarcéna and join the summit of Duffre.

(5) Descend to the left, still on the ridge trail, which is sometimes poorly marked. Continue towards the Pyramide, pass this small summit and go to the Pas la Lauze crossroads.

(6) Stay on the ridge to reach the summit of Aup Froid (alt. 1,629 m).

(7) Descend the steep path on the left, which is not very well marked at first, and join a crossroads marked by a signpost.

(8) Turn left towards the station.

(9) In the bed of the Ruisseau de Ronchet, climb slightly to the right. Cross to the other side, following the ruined wall on your left, and follow the path to the start of the Proron ski lift.

(10) Pass in front of it, cross the track and climb up the other side on the path to return to the car park (S/E).

One of my favourite hikes!
5 kilometres of pure bliss along these ridges where the view stretches so far.
Le Dévoluy seems so close with its snow-capped peaks, and in the distance the Ecrins and its high summits.
A climb that starts gently and then gets a bit tougher on the ridge. And then, you arrive at the mountain pastures with a 360-degree panorama: magnificent!
The descent is easy and relatively short.
If you only have time for one hike in the Drôme, choose this one because it’s pure joy.
