Departure from Viroflay-Rive-Gauche station (Tram line T6; Transilien line N, between Paris-Montparnasse and Versailles-Chantiers).
(S) Exit the station on the south side, above the railway line, and follow Rue Rieussec southwards. At the end, take Rue Jean Rey to the right. Pass in front of the swimming pool. At the end of the street, cross Route du Pavé de Meudon towards the tennis club and the forest opposite.
(1) Head to the right of the tennis club, along the restaurant. Do not take the path that goes straight up alongside the club, but turn right (west) at a right angle. The path, marked for horse riders (black horseshoe on a white background), turns left and then climbs gently into the forest. Despite the numerous intersections, stay on the main path, which veers left and climbs gently along the contour line.
(2) At the edge of the plateau, you will reach a wide horizontal track. Take this track to the left at 180° (east). The track joins theGR® (white and red markings, Route du Grand Cordon), which you will follow to the left (north-east).
(3) At a bench, theGR® turns sharply to the right. Leave it and follow straight ahead (north) aGRP® (yellow and red) trail marked with the initials "CV" (plot no. 31). Stay on the yellow-red trail, which becomes a small path.
(4) At the crossroads, continue along this small yellow-red marked path (north) until you reach a viewpoint overlooking the urbanised valley and the Fausses Reposes Forest opposite. The path forms a circular loop to the right around a clearing and then enters the forest (east-southeast), still marked in yellow and red. Cross the Cordon de Viroflay forest road.
(5) After 100 metres, turn left onto a downhill path, still following the yellow and red markings. Cross a path and a road towards a large oak tree.
(6) This Oak of the Virgin is a surprising improvised open-air oratory, with votive offerings and plastic chairs.
Enter Viroflay Park and walk downhill parallel to the road. Just before the end of the park, exit through a gate and follow the bridle path on the left-hand pavement to the crossroads.
(7) Cross the large crossroads straight ahead and join the Allée Noire opposite. About ten metres after the crossroads, turn diagonally right (south-east) onto a wide path that climbs uphill (marked "cavaliers").
(8) Cross Allée Blanche and continue south-east, still following the "cavaliers" markings and climbing. Cross a first path (plots nos. 91 and 92) and continue east-south-east. The path becomes less and less marked as you progress. Cross a second path (nos. 91–91, Route de la Voie Rouge) and continue straight ahead into the forest (east then east-northeast). At the third path (Route de la Fontaine de l'Ursine), turn left (northeast).
(9) Near a pond, turn right onto Allée Blanche, uphill (east-southeast). Take the first path on the right uphill (Allée de Vélizy, heading south). At the corner of the cemetery, turn left onto theGR® trail (white and red, east-southeast).
(10) At the crossroads (plot numbers 82-83-84), turn right towards a concrete balcony above the Étang du Trou aux Gants. Continue; at the end, turn around on the dyke, enjoying the setting and the view, and retrace your steps.
(10) Descend gently to the northeast. At the next crossroads (Carrefour du Pré Lagrange), continue straight ahead (north). The path descends gently in a straight line and then turns right. Turn left to reach the Carrefour de la Tour.
(11) Then follow the tarmac road on the right (Route des Fonds de la Chapelle, closed to cars), which climbs quite steeply (a good jogging workout!). At the top, turn left onto the tarmac road to Carrefour des Fonds de la Chapelle. Turn left at a right angle onto a forest road (Cordon du Haut, west-north-west, marked white and red + yellow and red), which leads to Chêne des Missions (slightly off the main path).
(12) Return to the main path and continue along it (west-northwest then northwest).
(13) At a crossroads (plots 70-72), the white-red markings go to the right and the yellow-red markings to the left downhill: continue straight ahead (north-west) down a steep slope. Cross the first path (Route Sablée).
(14) At the next junction (plots 67-69-70), turn right uphill. Cross a path and, at this point, the few metres separating us from the road are blocked by brambles: go around this obstacle (which may not be permanent) and cross the road. Continue along a path to the north-east and join the Route des Bois Blancs.
(15) Cross and take the path marked in yellow heading due east. At the next crossroads (Carrefour de Poix), take thesecond path on the right (south-south-east; confusing yellow markings). At the next crossroads, take the tarmac path to the left (Route du Pavé de Meudon). Go under the N118. At the corner of a stadium, leave the yellow markings and turn right (Route des Bois Plantés). After the stadium, turn left (Route du Mail, east-northeast).
Cross Route Royale and continue east-northeast on Route du Mail. You will reach the large stone wall of Meudon Observatory Park. Follow the wall to the left (north), keeping the wall on your right. At the Bel Air forest house, leave the forest and follow Route Royale to the right. The road turns left, continue downhill. Follow Avenue Marcellin Berthelot northwards, then Avenue du Château to the church. Bellevue station is located at the foot of the church (Transilien N Montparnasse-Versailles-Chantiers line) (E).
They prefer mountain biking terrain to their own track... I understand
