(S/E) The walk starts from the car park behind the church of Saint Georges d'Oléron. Take the small roads that lead to the hamlet of Foulerot, a small village with houses typical of the island of Oléron, single-storey houses with no upper floors.
(1) Head towards the beach car park and take the Saumonards forest road. Then, at the crossroads, turn left onto the road leading to La Gautrelle beach. Before reaching the beach, take the DFCI track on the right. This is a track that is only accessible to forest fire defence vehicles, but no one has been able to tell me whether bicycles are prohibited.
(2) After a few kilometres, at a water tank, turn left onto another track. This will take you to the Pointe des Saumonards car park. From this car park, use the cycle paths that will take you to Boyardville.
(3) At the entrance to Boyardville, go straight ahead (not allowed in summer, so turn right, then immediately left), and head towards the harbour, following it until you arrive opposite the bar "l'échoppe".
(4) Opposite the bar, turn right and then take the first street on the left. At the end of this street, turn left to take the bridge over the canal. Please note that this road is quite busy. On the other side of the bridge, follow the road that turns right and runs alongside the canal, then take the first small road that turns right just after the bend.
(5) Follow this small road which winds through the marshes and allows you to observe water birds. At the next intersection, turn left towards Arceau and continue to this small village.
(6) In Arceau, continue straight ahead until you reach the bus shelter and turn right just before it. The small street joins a cycle path, which you should follow more or less straight ahead. Take the road on the right and cross the small village of La Boirie, continuing straight ahead.
(7) At the end of the village, turn left onto the cycle path. It joins a road that leads into St Pierre d'Oléron. Continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction, turn right, then left twice to pass by the mill.
(8) Turn right just opposite the mill and follow the cemetery until you reach the main road. Cross the road and take the cycle path on your right. Continue on your right until you find a straight path that runs along the end of the airfield runway.
(9) When you reach the village of Sauzelle, take the road on the left and continue along it until you reach La Jousselinière. Pass between the campsites and turn right onto the cycle path that will take you to St Georges d'Oléron.
(10) In the village, at the well, continue straight ahead and turn right at the T-junction (turning left is prohibited), then take the first left at the tourist office to arrive at your starting point.
