(S/E) Set off from the campsite, heading right towards the north-west. You will reach a fork in the road in front of the entrance to a large wine cooperative. Turn left (north-west) and continue along Calle Curtidores until you reach the entrance to the town of Estella. Continue straight on until you arrive in front of the Church of Santo Sepulcro.
(1) Keep going in the same direction, pass under the road bridge carrying the NA-1110 to reach the Prison Bridge (Puente de la Cartel).
(2) Do not cross the bridge; instead, continue along Calle de la Rua. Pass the Carlismo Museum and carry on until you reach the Tourist Office in San Martin Anparantza Square. Turn left and climb the monumental steps to reach the foot of the Church of San Pedro de la Rúa.
(3) After visiting the church, head back down past the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum. Cross San Martin Anparantza Square, walk past the Lions’ Fountain and, after carefully crossing Calle Fray Diego de Estella, turn right. Cross the bridge over the River Ega, then continue left round the bend to reach Plaza de la Inmaculada, opposite the Town Hall. Head left onto Calle Sancho el Fuerte, which runs alongside the river. Continue until you reach the junction opposite Los Llanos Park. Turn right into Calle Sancho el Sabio and continue to the coach station, a large stone building with the town’s name inscribed on the façade.
(4) Head right past the building, cross Plaza de la Coronación and turn right into the first street (Calle San Andrés). Continue along this street until you reach the Stop sign. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead into Calle Baja Navarra, then turn left into the small pedestrian street. Continue until you reach Plaza de Santiago: there is a fountain in the centre of the square.
(5) Cross the square along the arcades, heading north-west. You will come to a signpost opposite the Las Recoletas Convent.
(6) Turn right into Calle la Gallarda and continue to the roundabout. Take the second exit and, at the pedestrian crossing, go up the steps on the left to find yourself in front of the Church of San Pedro de Lizarra, which is partly in ruins.
(7) Continue straight ahead (north-east) then, keeping to the left on the uphill Avenida San Sebastian, carry on to the junction. Turn right to arrive between the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Puy and the Monastery of San Benito.
(8) Go round the basilica on the left to begin the descent down Calle Abárzuza. Pass through the monastery gate and head left until you reach the Stop sign. Turn right into Calle San Esteban de la Solana and proceed, carefully, to the pedestrian crossing.
(9) At a sharp left-hand bend, follow the path leading towards the blocks of flats and turn right up the steps running alongside them. You’ll come out onto Calle Lizarra. Turn right, walk a few dozen metres until you reach a wide passageway in a block of flats. Turn left and head down towards the south-west. After crossing several streets separated by staircases, you’ll reach the bottom of the last flight of stairs and find yourself on Calleja de los Toros. First turn left then right and continue along this alleyway leading to Plaza de los Fueros, opposite the Church of San Juan Bautista.
(10) Walk past the church on the right into Calle Comercio. At the end of this alley, turn right, then left into Calle Mayor, which continues into Calle Zapatería. Walk on until you reach the Church of San Miguel Arcángel.
(11) After visiting the church, continue left onto Calle Julio Ruiz de Alda. At the end of this street, turn right to cross the Prison Bridge.
(2) Once you’ve crossed it, head left and continue until you reach the Church of El Santo Sepulcro.
(1) Continue straight ahead until you reach the large wine cooperative. Turn right and carry on until you reach the entrance to the campsite (S/E).
