Green getaway around the town of Brennus

This lovely route, which largely follows a cycle path known as the "Coulée Verte", takes you on a tour of the town of Sens. Allotments, Parc du Moulin à Tan, the towpath along the River Yonne: all familiar sights to the locals of Sens, which walkers will have the chance to discover too.

Description of the walk

Boulevard Maupéou car park, opposite Sainte-Mathie Church.

(S/E) Walk up the promenades towards the fountain. At the fountain, turn left and cross Boulevard des Garibaldi. Walk past the entrance to the Théâtre Municipal.

(1) At the next roundabout (known as the "Demi-Lune" roundabout), take the second street on the left, Rue du Général Leclerc. Cross immediately to the opposite side to reach a small passageway (no entry sign, behind the Tourist Office), Rue Benoît Voisin. Then turn right onto Rue Claude Dechambre, which runs alongside the cemetery. At the end of this street, turn right, then immediately left onto Rue des Chaillots (running alongside the cemetery).

(2) Turn left into Rue de la Pépinière. Cross Boulevard de Verdun. Walk a few steps and turn right onto Rue de Thorigny. Continue straight ahead, leaving the two cul-de-sacs on your right. Walk down the street and pass between the wooden posts on the right to reach the “green corridor”.

(3) Continue to the right for a good distance in this direction, crossing the road four times. Walk past the Centre de Secours (on the left) and Les Charmilles (on the right).

(4) Before the D606 bridge, take a small path on the right to reach Rue Colette. After the bend, turn left onto Rue Pierre Lavergne, then continue along Rue Albert Einstein. After the bend, leave the street and continue straight ahead along a small path. Cross Route de Maillot, walk to the left, then join Chemin des Boutours a little further on to the left.

(5) Continue along this path, skirting the Vanne and the allotments.

(6) At the end of the path, turn left onto Rue des Maraîchers. Cross Avenue de Sénigallia to reach Chemin d’Entre Deux Vannes on the left. Continue along Chemin de Babie.

(7) Walk past the entrance to the Parc du Moulin à Tan. During the park’s opening hours, you can walk through it for 300 metres, crossing a small bridge after the picnic area, following the wind turbine and, at the park exit, taking the path on your right to reach the bridge over the Lingue.
Outside the park’s opening hours, continue along Chemin de Babie, then turn left onto Rue de Mocquesouris. Continue along Rue Eugène Delaporte. Turn left onto Rue Champbertrand. Cross three watercourses: the Rû de Monsalé, the Vanne and the Lingue. Then turn right towards the banks of the Yonne, following the Lingue.

(8) Turn right onto the towpath. Continue along Quai du Petit Hameau, then Quai Ernest Landry. Head down to the left and pass under the Yonne bridge (paved quay) to reach Quai Jean Moulin. On the opposite bank, you can see Saint-Maurice Church, the former parish church of fishermen and boatmen.

(9) At the end of the quay, turn right. Walk past the Square du Clos le Roi, then join the promenades. Walk past the bandstand and you will see the Church of Sainte-Mathie (on the left) and the car park where you started (S/E).

Hi, for once I'd like to say that the information for this hike was excellent. I want to point this out because it's far from the case for many of the hikes we do, where we're limited intellectually.

The first section is well signposted; beyond that, there are roadworks leading into the green corridor.
It could be greener in some places and free of litter, which is a shame.
A highlight is the Moulin de Tan park, which is clean and interesting – a must-see for the pleasure of the eyes.
A pleasant return walk along the Yonne with few other walkers.

Hello

We did indeed follow the route suggested by Visorando on Sunday 25 October 2022. We set off at 9.30 am from the fountain near the theatre, walked through the ‘Coulée verte’ and had lunch in the Moulin à Tan park before returning to our cars along the banks of the Yonne, which have been beautifully landscaped.
Thank you for this precise, easy-to-follow and very pleasant route.

Hello Marie-Catherine,
Thank you for commenting on this route and sharing your thoughts with us! We’re delighted that you enjoyed the walk overall! We’ll also keep your comments in mind should we need to make any changes to the route. The first part of the walk is indeed very urban!
See you soon on the trails of the Sénonais!

Good evening,

I did indeed go for a walk in Sens yesterday with one of my friends.
Your description is, on the whole, very accurate. Thanks to Laurent, and to everyone who took the trouble to put it together.
As for the walk itself, I found the first section up to the entrance to the Coulée Verte rather uninteresting. The Coulée Verte itself could do with better maintenance.
The Chemin des Boutours and allotments section is fine; it’s a really lovely part of the walk.
Two suggestions if the route were to be revised: perhaps give more prominence to the Parc du Moulin à Tan, as the current route doesn’t include a return via it.
We would have liked to walk a bit further along the towpath.
Not many people around, in any case. A lovely autumn day.
Thank you again for helping to make this a wonderful day of discovery and nature.
