Worth a visit

Seaside architecture in Hauteville-sur-Mer

In 1907, Louis Cirée and Émile Desjardins acquired part of the communal dunes with a view to turning Hauteville into a seaside resort. Based on plans by the architect Benjamin Chaussemiche, several chalets were built. Still visible today, they are recognisable by their façades, which feature a stone archway clad in wood. To withstand the onslaught of the sea, the sea wall was built in 1933 to protect the seaside resort. Over time, Hauteville has become a charming resort with many attractions: sea bathing, shellfish gathering, water sports, tennis, a cinema, an equestrian club, and more.

The Captain’s Turret

In the village of Hauteville-sur-Mer, on the hillside, you can explore the Captain’s Turret. This small square structure dates from the 17th century and was probably used for coastal surveillance.

The Montmartin-sur-Mer quarry and its natural climbing site.

This former quarry, situated in Montmartin-sur-Mer, was long used to extract stone for building houses or lime kilns. At the end of the path, you’ll find this amphitheatre-shaped site, which has now become a regional natural climbing site. In some places, the rock rises to a height of 15 metres. The Horizon Vertical association offers introductory sessions and climbing courses in this magnificent setting from spring onwards.

The orientation table and the viewpoint over the mouth of the Sienne

From this viewpoint, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the mouth of the River Sienne. With the Pointe d’Agon opposite, the town of Regnéville-sur-Mer to the right and the town of Hauteville-sur-Mer to the left, this spot is the ideal vantage point from which to appreciate and take in this exceptional natural landscape.

I suggest walking along the beach at low tide rather than via Avenue de la Brequette and the promenade (7). At high tide, this won’t be possible!

Hello

At the start of the walk from point 1 to point 2, there’s no path, so you have to take the road; there’s also a lot of road and not enough path. It’s not very interesting, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
