Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the Lucy village hall, behind the town hall.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left onto Rue du Ruisseau. Continue along this street until you reach the junction with Route de Ménonval.
At the junction, turn left onto Route de Ménonval. Continue along this road, which climbs slightly.

(1) Take the first path on your right, Chemin du Ru, which leads onto Route de la Houssaye Beranger.

(2) At the end of the track, turn left onto Route de la Houssaye Beranger and carry on until you reach a Fork in the road.

(3) At the Fork in the road, carry on along the D97, taking the Route de Neufchâtel on your right.
Follow this road up to the junction with the D1314.

(4) Cross the D1314 and take the D97 diagonally to your right. Continue along this road through the forest until you reach the junction with the D56. Take this road to the right for 130 metres.

(5) Turn right onto the forest track. Continue straight ahead along this track until you reach the edge of the forest.

(6) Take the path on your right at the edge of the forest. Continue along this path, which leads slightly into the forest whilst remaining more or less at the edge, and joins the D1314 after the pylon on your left.

(7) At the junction, cross the D1314(with care) and take the road opposite. Then, at the bend, turn onto the dirt track on your left. Follow this track until you reach a junction with Rue du Cimetière.

(8) Cross the road and continue along the path opposite after passing the cemetery. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction with Rue des Fontaines. Take Rue des Fontaines on your right until you reach the junction with Rue du Moulin.

(9) Cross Rue du Moulin and follow it on your left for 30 metres until you reach the wayside cross.
Turn right onto Rue du Petit Pont. Continue along this small road until you reach a junction where the road meets a footpath.

(10) At the junction, turn right onto the road and carry on to the next junction at the entrance to Lucy. Turn right onto Route de Ménonval. Continue along this road and turn right onto Impasse du Terroir, which becomes a village track. Follow this track until it joins Rue du Ruisseau.

(11) At the end of the track, turn left onto Rue du Ruisseau. Follow this street and you will return to your starting point at the village hall car park (S/E).

A walk that must be pleasant when the weather’s fine or it hasn’t rained. We got caught in a thunderstorm along the way. The walk starts on a road up to point 5; given the weather, that’s no bad thing. Then, in the woods, there were some very muddy sections (due to the weather and forestry machinery), but the verges were passable. However, it was a real struggle at point 6 on the edge of the woods: a muddy, slippery path with ruts, and the section along the verge wasn’t easy. After that, we avoided the muddy cross-country paths and opted to stick to the road instead. A nice walk, best chosen depending on the weather conditions.

There’s a minor problem on the way back: when you take the Chemin du Terroir (between 10 and 11), you’ll come across a barrier and an electric wire (indicated by a sign). You can get through by crawling under it – not very practical – or carry on along the road to reach point 1.
Between 6 and 7, there are a few fallen trees, but it’s no problem – you can get past them.
It’s a lovely walk all the same.

A lovely walk in the heart of the Pays de Bray, offering a variety of scenery ranging from countryside and woodland to the little village of Lucy. During the week, we didn’t come across any other walkers. We saw several tractors along the way and a 4x4 on the path through the Baillolet woods. About a third of the route is on tarmac roads, but these are quiet. Although it had been raining for about ten days, the paths weren’t particularly muddy. An easy walk suitable for everyone.
