Description of the walk

Trail marked with yellow circles and arrows.

(S/E) From the car park alongside the D263, with the picnic area on your right, take the road leading down towards the hamlet of La Goutte du Frêne, until you reach the first crossroads. Turn right, then left. Pass the turn-off for La Longeroie on your left to reach a Fork in the road at Le Monthury.

(1) Turn left, towards the Auberge des 1000 Étangs. Leave the road by taking the signposted path on the left, opposite an old farm. You’ll reach a Fork in the road with a panoramic view.

(2) Continue along the path branching off to the left. Admire the landscape behind you, opening out onto the highest point in the Haute-Saône: the Ballon de Servance (1,216 m). Follow the path to the hamlet of La Goutte du Frêne and follow the road to the left.

(3) Leave the road a little further on and turn right into the meadow. Take in the scenery and the pond below, where a scene from Olivier Dahan’s film *Les Rivières Pourpres 2*, starring Jean Reno, was filmed. You’ll come to a road leading towards Le Grilloux

(4) Turn left onto the D263 and follow the road, taking care, until you reach the car park (S/E).

A children’s activity booklet, “Rallye Photo”, is available free of charge from the 1000 Étangs Tourist Office (Mélisey and Faucogney), to be used along this route.

On the other short route starting from Les Grilloux, “La Petite Finlande”, a mobile app lets you follow an augmented reality adventure in pursuit of the Granbeuletin.

A lovely little walk amongst the ponds.
A few muddy patches at the start of April.
Lots of cars in the car park at the start. We weren’t expecting that at all, but the lovely sunny weather must have something to do with it 😄
