In the Dreux Forest

This walk, in the Dreux Forest, offers a beautiful view of the village of Montreuil, the Eure Valley and the arches of the Eure siphon, the Avre aqueduct that supplies drinking water to the city of Paris. Come and discover a walking route in the Dreux National Forest; after a bit of exercise, you’ll climb the hillside along a very pleasant path, having crossed the bridge over the Eure.

Description of the walk

Park in front of Montreuil Town Hall, Rue de l'Aunaie.
Follow the yellow markings.

(S/E) Head towards the church, cross the bridge over the Eure and join Rue des Heunières.

(1) Turn left and, immediately afterwards, take the path on the right between the houses, then climb up to the crossroads at the top of the hill.

(2) Turn right, heading south-east, until you reach the five-way junction.

(3) Leave the return path on your left. Continue straight ahead, then cross the Avre aqueduct. Continue straight on, along the signposted path, for about 800 m, until you reach a path that veers to the left.

(4) Turn left (another marked route continues straight ahead) and carry on straight ahead until you reach the D928.

(5) Cross it (take care) and turn right onto the Allée du Roi, following it to the end.

(6) At the end, head left for a few dozen metres, then turn left again, ignoring the paths branching off to the left or right. You will arrive at the Allée Belle-Vue de Motel.

(7) Follow it to the left for a few metres, then turn right and join the Allée du Berceau.

(8) Turn left onto Allée du Berceau heading north-west. Pass Allées du Bochet, then Allées des Maisons Motier, and reach Croix du Carré.

(9) Cross the D928 again (take care) and take thesecond lane on the left, between plots 149 and 167 (Allée de la Ronce). Cross the Carrefour du Belvédère. At the end of the lane, you’ll reach the junction where the circular route begins.

(3) Turn right and retrace your steps along the path you took on the way there, crossing the bridge over the Eure and passing the church to return to the car park (S/E).

We set off from Muzy, following the GR 22 to the church at Montreuil.
The path at point 1 is indeed closed as it is dangerous. An alternative route has been created, but it significantly lengthens the route. You have to walk 400 metres along Rue des Heunières to find the new path (signpost) and then another 400 metres through the forest, and the same on the way back.
It’s a shame we can’t get close to the edge of the hillside to see the Eure valley.

A pleasant walk, mainly through the woods. Please note that, at point 1, the path leading uphill is closed??

A forest in the Drouais region and a well-marked path.
The charming village of Montreuil on the banks of the Eure.

Please be careful! The access path to this walk is closed as it is too dangerous. The alternative route is not clearly marked, and you have to walk 500 metres in direct sunlight before you find it (it is very poorly signposted).

The walk is rather uninteresting and the ticks are far too active. We gave up and headed back, making our own way… via the path closed to the public.

The municipality of Montreuil has the solution: to carry out much-needed work on the access path. However, generally speaking, this walk offers little in the way of difficulty.

An easy, well-described walk, best done during hot weather as the route is mainly through woodland
The church in Montreuil is well worth a visit. Thanks to the author of the walk
