On the banks of the Nimy Canal in Peronnes

A walk along the towpaths of the new and old canals from Nimy to Péronnes.
At the start, you can admire the two giant locks that have replaced the eight locks that you will then pass as you walk down the old canal.
Admire the old lock houses on the old canal.
However, be careful in strong winds between points (8) and (9) as the trees are fragile and it is best to avoid this section.
The entire hike is on tarmac or paved paths.

An interesting and varied route. My father even took photos during the construction of the locks.
It is possible to shorten the route. Simply take the ramp on the left, about 1 km after the second lock, between points (1) and (2). Take Rue Bitremont to reach the old canal. You will then rejoin the route.

A beautiful and relaxing walk, a kind of active meditation that allows you to not have to check the route every moment, but gives you the opportunity to remain immersed in conversation with friends or in your own thoughts. Magnificent views of the new and old canals.

A very pleasant walk, easy and enjoyable. Accessible to all.
Good walkers can do it in less time.
The ground is always hard, but that doesn't take away from how enjoyable it is. The scenery is beautiful in all weathers.
Thank you to the person who made this walk available.
I know the area well, and would recommend this walk.

We did the route backwards. Nevertheless, finding our way was as easy as it would have been in the 'normal' direction. The path is easy.
Walking along the Nimy Canal has a calming effect: calm, green waters, home to ducks, chickens and duckweed.
On that day (11 August 2019), before reaching Callenelle, the path along the canal was quite obstructed by fallen trees, brambles and nettles. Workaround: take the Ravel.
Don't forget to stop at one of the two locks, especially if a barge is passing through.
For those who are (still) thirsty: a quick beer at the Auberge du Lac (Péronnes).

Very good reliability of the route and description.
The markers are well placed and clearly explained.
This hike can be done in both good and bad weather, which is great
for our autumn and winter outings.
I appreciated the tranquillity encountered on most of the route.
Thank you to the person who created it.

Kind regards, Pascal DUPLOUY

No particular problems, except for the lack of dirt paths (lots of tarmac and cemented paths).
Be careful at point 5 (I got lost there for a while, but it wasn't too much of a problem).
