Explore the village of Orcq via the Trieu des Pouriaux

The aim of this walk is to help residents (re)discover the village of Orcq, as well as anyone interested in local history and heritage.

Description of the walk

(S/E) On leaving “La Marmite” (info A), turn right onto the Vieux Chemin de Willems

(1) At the first junction, on the right, take the Chemin Vert (info B), continue along this path and, at the junction of the Chemin du Moulin du Diable and the Chemin de la Marlière (info C), carry on straight ahead

(2) Cross the Chaussée de Lille carefully using the pedestrian crossing opposite “la Barrière” (info D) and continue along the Chemin Vert.

(3) Turn right onto the Chemin de Bouvines (info E).

(4) After the power line, turn right onto Chemin Landaise (info F), until you reach the junction with Rue de la Chapelle.

(5) Carry on straight ahead and turn left towards the Chaussée de Lille. Turn left.

(6) Follow this road as far as No. 500 (keystone in the façade (info I)), turn round on the Chaussée de Lille, go round the block formed by the single house (No. 488) and turn right.

(5) Head towards Rue de la Chapelle, crossing the road. Walk alongside the football pitch until you reach the junction with the Charles Lelubre residential complex. Turn right, then left (at the green space).

(7) Continue to the Charles Lelubre memorial (info H), turn right then left into Rue de la Chapelle until you reach Chaussée de Lille. Turn left.

(8) Walk past the Notre-Dame de la Paix Chapel (info M) and continue to No. 438B, where you’ll see the commemorative plaque for Victor Crombez on the wall (info M); cross the Chaussée de Lille at the pedestrian crossing and head to the right, then turn left immediately, before the ruined tower (info M), to join the Vieux Chemin de Lille. Turn left again onto the section of the Vieux Chemin de Lille, then turn right onto the Chaussée de Lille and carry on until you reach the petrol station. Then turn right at the Notre-Dame Chapel (info J).

(9) Next, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine d’Arnouville (info K) and, at the end, go round the hill on the left (the stream is below) to return to the Vieux Chemin de Lille.

(9) Turn left.

(10) Continue to the village square (info L), pass the buildings of the non-profit organisation Ensemble (info N), continue along Rue de l’Église Sainte-Agathe (info O), turn left onto Rue Gaston Horlait (info P) and stop for refreshments at Ferme Glorieux (info Q).

(11) At the cemetery (info R), turn round, then turn left onto Rue de l’Église Sainte-Agathe. Pass the Ferme du Vieux Maire (info S) and continue to the edge of the Domaine de la Marlière (info T).

(12) Turn left onto path no. 29 and follow the Rieu de Maire (Info U) on your right to reach “La Marmite” (S/E).

Notes

Access and Parking

  • From Froyennes, on Chaussée de Lannoy, at the final bend before the junction with Chaussée de Courtrai, turn right onto Rue des Mottes (one-way street) and then left onto Vieux chemin de Willems, ‘La Marmite’ There is no car park at this location; continue along the one-way street towards Avenue des Peupliers, where you can park along the roadside, then walk back to the Domaine de la Marmite, 94 Vieux Chemin de Willems.
  • From Tournai, take Rue Saint-Eleuthère, then turn left onto Avenue des Peupliers; park along the roadside and walk via Vieux Chemin de Willems (closed to cars in this direction) towards No. 94; at the end of the road, turn left towards ‘La Marmite’.

  • Rue Gaston Horlait, at the Glorieux farm.
