Saint-Nectaire via the Couze Valley Chambon
The route starts in the hills above the Couze Chambon valley and is circular, looping back via Saint-Nectaire and its unmissable Cornadore Basilica. There are numerous viewpoints along the route, particularly over the Couze Chambon valley, dominated by the hilltop Château de Murol, and the entire Massif du Sancy.
A short, mystical circular loop in Saint-Nectaire
This mystical route takes you past two menhirs, one of which has been Christianised, a tumulus and its dolmen, and the beautiful Basilica of Notre-Dame du Mont Cornadore, a jewel of Auvergne Romanesque architecture. This hike also passes by the Châteauneuf Caves, which offer a beautiful view of Murol Castle, the Couze Chambon valley and the Sancy massif.
Châteauneuf Caves, Freydefont Menhir, La Pineyre Dolmen
This route takes you to the Châteauneuf Caves, ancient cave dwellings, then the small Freydefond Menhir, with its viewpoint, and the Dolmen de la Pineyre burial mound. The return journey follows a wild and steep path through the undergrowth.
Saint-Nectaire thermal baths via the Route des Croix
A walk allowing you to explore the thermal spa district of Saint-Nectaire starting from Boissières, which makes it easy to park away from the village during the tourist season. The route is dotted with several stone crosses, some of which are ancient and very simple, but you will also discover the beautiful Croix du Marchidial in Saint-Nectaire Haut, as well as a Christianised menhir, the Croix Saint-Roch. You will also enjoy beautiful views of Murol Castle and the Sancy massif.

From Murol to Pessade
Stage 2 of the 5-day route.
This stage takes you to theGR®4trail through the countryside. You can visit Murol Castle at the start of the stage, then the troglodyte caves of Chautignat.
Courbanges - Chareire
You will pass close to waterfalls at Cheix, Pérouse and Biche, and stop for a quick drink at the Sainte-Anne spring before beginning the ascent of the Puy de Champgourdeix (alt. 1,566 m) and the Perdrix (alt. 1,824 m), with views over the resort of Super Besse.
Voissières - Le Mont Dore
A return route to Mont Dore, taking care to avoid the same paths as the previous day.
From Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise to Murol
First stage of a 5-day route.
This stage takes you through the mountain pastures to the medieval town of Murol. A very pretty route ending near Lake Chambon.
Between Puy de Sancy and Monts Dore
A very beautiful route that takes you along the ridges of Sancy and through the medieval villages of Besse and Murol, betweenGR®4andGR®30.
This route can be done in stages, staying in hotels or lodges. The addresses where we stopped will be indicated in the stage descriptions.
From Pessade to Orcival
Starting from Pessade, the route follows theGR®®441andGR®®30, taking you past Lac de Servière, a lake of volcanic origin, and ending in Orcival with its magnificent Romanesque basilica built between 1146 and 1178.
From Pessade to Mont-Dore
Stage 3 of the "Between Puy de Sancy and Monts Dore" route.
A very pretty stage, starting with a route at the bottom of the valley and ending with passages along the ridges of the various puys before Mont-Dore.
Col de la Croix Morand - Courbanges
You’ll pass close to farms, with lovely countryside scenery, then you’ll go through Chambon-sur-Lac and, of course, its lake, and you’ll take the Chemin des Quayres as you head deep into a thick forest.

Puy de Sancy from Super Besse
Access to Puy de Sancy on the way there via the east and north ridges of the Super Besse resort and return via theGR®4.
Please note that two vehicles are required for this hike: one at the top of the resort and another at the Lac des Hermines car park.
