From Tescou to the west of Sivens

This hike alternates between agricultural areas and the Sivens Forest and is therefore quite shaded for much of the route.
It alternates between marked trails (PR® andGRP®) and unmarked but well-marked passages.
No particular difficulties, apart from the distance. This hike can be enjoyed in all seasons.

Description of the walk

Park in the Sourigous car park on the edge of the D999.

(S/E) Follow the yellow markings ofthe PR® "les Hauts de la Maladène". Cross the campsite and the Tescou river via a footbridge, continue to theGR® de Pays (red and yellow markings).

(1) Follow the small road, cross the D28, and continue straight ahead. Reach the crossroads at the Rigagnac stream.

(2) Turn right, then left at the hairpin bend 150 metres further on. Follow the path, cross a road and pass in front of the Moulin de la Salle Basse mill. Continue along theGRP®, cross a small road at a place called Louvet, then the D14. Continue almost opposite towards the Forêt de Sivens forest.

(3) Turn left at a place called "le Gourpat" and climb into the forest via a forest track, following theGRP® markings. Reach the top of the forest track in a clearing, at a new crossroads.

(4) Turn left and descend into a valley. You will reach a stream.

(5) Leave theGRP® on your right and continue left along the wide forest track that zigzags uphill. You will reach a tarmac road.

(6) Take it to the left, then turn right towards the church of Oustrières (sign).

(7) After the church, go down the path and cross a stream.

(8) Turn right to follow the Gissière stream valley along an unmarked but well-defined path. Climb up to reach Les Guillaumets.

(9) Turn left towards the D14 and follow it on the right for about 50 metres. Then turn left onto a small road that goes around the village of Les Barrières and continue to the D5.

(10) Follow the D5 to the left, pick up the yellow markings (return from thePR® "les Hauts de Maladène").

(11) Turn left onto a path towards Joulbert and descend towards Regagnac where two streams meet.

(12) Go around the Tournario farm, turning left then right to rejoin the Regagnac stream. Follow it until you reach theGRP® at the crossroads you passed on the way out.

(2) Return via the same route as on the way out, turning left. Follow theGRP® which runs alongside the Tescou. Reach the first crossroads.

(1) Leave theGRP® by turning left at the campsite to return to the starting car park (S/E).

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

I calculated the length of the sections on tarmac: 5.1 km, or 20% of the route. It's still too much, but a route that is 75% paths and trails isn't too bad!

Have a nice day, best regards,

A lot of driving, and a long section of the same road on the way there and back

An interesting route, mostly through forest. It's practically impossible to get lost, although sometimes I would have preferred small paths rather than wide avenues. If I were to do it again, I would park my car at the church in Oustrières, which would avoid having to do the journey between 1 and 2 twice, which is along the main road and of no interest: you can hear the noise of lorries more than the birds.

Not to be done after a series of rainy days – the first part (along the banks of the Tescou) resembles marshland.

A lovely route, but it's a shame that the entrance to the forest has been damaged by logging equipment...

A pleasant walk, especially in autumn, as part of the route is through the forest.

Hello

This hike does not pass through the deforested area of the dam project!

Few passages through the undergrowth. Too many tarmac sections. Part of the Sivens forest disfigured by the abandoned dam project. A shame.

A pleasant hike, with countryside and forest landscapes. I did it after a few days of rain and, apart from a few muddy patches, the path was easily passable.
At the end of July, with the fields in bloom and the first blackberries of the season, it was very pleasant.
You can stop for a break at the tables next to the Oustrières chapel.
However, for a solo hiker in good shape, you should allow around 3½ to 4 hours, as the elevation gain is not a difficulty.

Very beautiful hike, just the start is a bit long, alternating between road and flat trail for 6.7 km!
In summer, bring a hat and water!
A must-do!
