Departure: car park at Eichbirel on the D129.
(S/E) Go around the Ernolsheim-lès-Saverne stadium on the left, turn left again to reach Rue Saint-Jean.
(1) Follow this street to the right to reach the village, continue left on Rue Principale, then turn left towards the church. Take a small street on the left before reaching it, first turn left then right to take a path that quickly leads to a crossroads.
(2) Turn right onto the path that follows the contour lines. This path then climbs gradually, following the Blue Rectangle with White stripe route to the track junction at altitude 281.
(3) Take a sharp left turn and then immediately left again. From there, the climb becomes a little steeper towards Daubenschlag, a route marked with a blue rectangle. You will reach the ruins of Warthenberg Castle (or Daubenschlag).
(4) Continue along the ridge towards the Celtic oppidum of Heidenstad.
(5) Turn left to go around it to the east and then south, following the blue rectangle markings. Pass over the Platenweg, an ancient Roman road. Leave the oppidum and join the Chemin de la Heidenstadt.
(6) Turn left, then right about a hundred metres further on. Continue north-northwest on the unmarked forest path.
(7) Cross the track junction and continue straight ahead for 400 metres, then follow the sign for "Fompagniefield" to reach the cave.
(8) Retrace your steps back to the crossroads.
(7) Turn right towards the Langenthal Cross and walk to it.
(9) Continue south on the Saint-Jean forest road.
(10) Leave this road and take a path on the left, joining a wider path and following it to the left towards the Roches Plates viewpoint.
(11) Continue along the Anneau Rouge marked trail, which arrives at Mont Saint-Michel from the south, following the contour line.
(12) Turn right, pass by the Saint-Michel Chapel to admire the view. Then continue along the path until you reach a road, which you take on the right.
(13) At the next three-way junction, turn sharply left onto Chemin d'Emolsheim and continue straight ahead.
(14) Go over the TGV line tunnel, then turn right onto a small road. Follow it to the right, rejoin the D219 and turn left to reach the car park (S/E).
