There is a large car park at the starting point at the entrance to the Chemin Forestier du Mont-Saint-Michel. It is also possible to park in front of the Saint-Michel chalet at point 1 to avoid the small drop at the start, or in front of the Langenthal cross at point 2.
(S/E) Follow the gravel road uphill to the Saint-Michel chalet.
(1) Once you have found the viewpoint of Mont Saint-Michel, turn right and follow the small Frohnberg path marked with a blue signpost.
(2) Admire the Langenthal Cross on your left, then cross the road carefully and continue along the Heidenstadt forest path (on the right at the intersection). This is theGR®531marked with a blue rectangle. A few dozen metres after the crossroads with a path on your left, you will come to a plaque presenting the Celtic oppidum of Heidenstadt.
(3) Turn right onto the small path that gradually turns left and heads east to reach the viewpoint.
(4) Admire the splendid view of Alsace, then continue along the path, following the blue rectangle markings.
(5) The path joins the Heindestadt forest path. Keep right, following theGR® trail to the ruins of Warthenberg Castle.
(6) Explore the ruins. You can continue to the Daubenschlag rock, which overlooks the rest of the route, but you will then have to turn back as it is a dead end. Take the small path down from the castle to the intersection with the yellow ring trail.
(7) Leave the blue rectangle markings, turn right and follow the yellow ring trail down a steep slope. The trail crosses several forest paths and arrives above Ernolsheim-lès-Saverne.
(8) At the Kindelsbrunne intersection, turn right and follow the Chevalet Rouge trail. Pay close attention to the markings as the trail encounters several intersections. Arrive at the footbridge that crosses a stream near the rock barrier of the Wasserfalfelsen.
(9) Cross the pontoon and immediately take the small path climbing up to the right. After a few hairpin bends, it joins the car park (S/E).
