Description of the walk

Park in the Place Guynemer car park in Saint-Girons, near the post office.

(S/E) Follow the Salat upstream. Cross the footbridge, head towards the roundabout and go round the supermarket on the left.

(1) Turn right, then immediately left towards Eycheil, and left again onto the Pré de la Hount track. You will reach the junction by Saint-Jean Church.

(2) Turn right and go round the church on the left; towards the end of the cemetery, take the path that veers right uphill towards the woods. Follow this path towards Ouerdes until you reach the road.

(3) Turn left onto the road and follow it until you reach the crossroads after the hamlet of Plandevielle.

(4) Turn right onto the forest road and leave the path leading to Roc de Gabach on your right. Continue to the next three-way junction, keep right and you will then come to a T-junction

(5) Turn right, then right again to reach the hamlet of Parrat,

(6) Join the road, stay on it by turning right at the next junction and continue until you reach a bend near the hamlet of Peille.

(7) Turn right onto the track, then leave it to the left at the next junction to continue the descent and reach the hamlet of Coumaragues.

(8) Continue towards Ouerdes for about a hundred metres, then turn left onto the path at the edge of the woods lined with low walls (make sure to close the gate properly) until you reach the Tour de Mirolabach.

(9) Turn left, then right, and continue in this direction until you reach the entrance to Saint-Girons.

(10) Turn left onto Chemin de Lanes and follow it until you reach the pastures on the right-hand side. Turn right onto Rue de la Citadelle.

(11) At the junction, go down Route de Saudeche and continue along the same road until you reach Rue Joseph Pujols on the right. Cross the Old Bridge to the left, then turn right towards Allée du Champ de Mars to return to the car park at Place Guynemer (S/E).

Notes

A signpost is located just below the Eycheil church cemetery.
The start of the trail near Eycheil churchyard can be very slippery for about ten metres on the uphill section.
Please note: some of these paths are also used by mountain bikers.

Worth a visit

About 300m further on (5), a sign provides information about the natural feature known as the Trumau sinkhole, situated in the heart of the meadow very close to the route.
At the summit above Coumaragues, the path disappears into the meadow; head towards the houses.

An interesting, pleasant and peaceful route, nature has awakened with birdsong (and woodpeckers). I added the Degaudez chasm to this hike (30 minutes there and back and 15 minutes on site). Note: this chasm is cluttered with tree trunks and branches. A little disappointed by the small Dolime. The description of the route is incomplete and sometimes inaccurate, so a GPS is essential. Passage through private property (communal path modified in 7). In 2, read "which veers to the left (not right).
And with the chasm, 4 hours 55 minutes.

A pleasant walk through the countryside, starting in the pretty town of Saint-Girons.
The description, which is rather brief, does not always match the GPS track (which I followed closely).

A lovely walk, with a nice little climb to reach Ouerdes.
The route is a bit confusing; there are lots of hiking and mountain bike trails crossing each other, so it’s easy to get a bit lost.
Good overall

A lovely walk in fine weather, with no problems at all. As the route description was rather brief in places, we relied entirely on the GPS track. It’s worth noting that there are a few unmarked gaps in the fence, which you must of course close properly. In particular, after the 7 km mark, take the barely visible path on the left leading to Coumaragues. We had a picnic a few metres past the fence and, whilst eating, we noticed a bull grazing peacefully a few dozen metres away from us.

No particular comments, except that it’s best to do this route in dry weather as it must get slippery in the rain.
A pleasant, easy route. Just be careful after the 7 not to take the path on the right which leads towards Ouerdes and Eycheil and brings you back to the starting point. I nearly got caught out. There are plenty of shaded areas, which are very welcome in hot weather.

Hello everyone
We went for a walk today in lovely weather; it was a lovely walk, but there are places where you could easily get lost. Also, on the downhill sections, be very careful on the wet rocks! It’s sooooo slippery!!! I think a GPS is really useful for this route, which is otherwise a very pleasant walk. Thanks for the description.
