Departure from the Parc des Trois Croix on the D1082 road located below on the left towards Saint-Étienne.
(S/E) Head south on the road to Saint-Sauveur-en-Rue for 50 m. Take the dirt track slightly uphill to the right into the forest. Follow this main track almost straight ahead.
(1) Cross and ignore a large road coming from the left, which will be used for the return journey. Continue until you reach the D28 road.
(2) Cross the road and continue straight ahead towards the hamlet of Prélager. Cross the hamlet and leave it behind. At the next crossroads, ignore the path that branches off to the right towards the reception area and continue straight ahead with the meadow on your right until you reach the forest. Follow the main path until you reach a large cleared area.
(3) Ignore a path that climbs to the left and follow the path slightly downhill into the forest. The path curves to the left.
(4) After 50 m, leave the path straight ahead and turn sharply left uphill. Cross an area of heather and juniper trees and reach the Pierre Saint-Martin. The very narrow path follows an area of meadow and broom. Head towards the huge Croix de Chaussitre and its orientation table.
(5) Retrace your steps and after 50 m, take the path on the right. The path curves to the right to reach a stony path near a pylon on the left.
(6) Follow the gravel path downhill. The path turns into a road and passes through a few houses in Le Teil. Continue along the road until you reach another road near some houses below on the right.
(7) Take the road to the left. After 150 m, ignore the road coming from the right. After 200 m, you will reach a road coming from the left from the hamlet of Du Creux. Ignore it and continue straight ahead.
(8) Follow this road straight ahead to the hamlet of Bourgaud.
(9) When the road turns right at a 90° angle, follow the path up to the left, passing a goat farm. This path through the meadows leads to the D28 road.
(10) Follow the road downhill to the right. After 200 m, take a path uphill to the left. The path is in the forest and then in the middle of meadows. Close the wooden gates behind you. Opposite a house in the meadow, you will reach a road. Follow it to the right for 200 m, ignoring a road branching off to the right towards houses. You will come to a crossroads.
(11) At the crossroads, take the first path at an acute angle to the left. Follow this well-marked path, which is almost straight, ignoring two paths on the right. This path curves to the left before reaching a crossroads at an elevation of 1197 metres.
(12) Take the path straight ahead, ignoring the paths branching off to the right and left. After 700 m, you will reach a large path that you passed at the start of the hike.
(1) Follow the path to the right. Reach the D22 road and follow it to the left to return to the starting point at the Parc des Trois Croix (S/E).
