Departure: car park at the Tremplin leisure area in Bessat.
(S/E) Take the tarmac road that extends from the access road. After the hangar, it continues along a path. Continue straight ahead.
(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto theGR®42, which joins theGR®7and follows the same route. Continue straight ahead on this GR®.
(2) At the Croix des Fosses, turn right onto theGR®7-GR®42.
(3) At the Creux du Loup crossroads, turn left onto theGR®42. An area of young plantations follows the forest. Leave theGR®42, which descends to the left, and continue straight ahead. After about 200 metres, you will find a faint path on the right that leads into the woods.
(4) Follow this path, despite a few branches blocking the way. The path winds and climbs to an altitude of 1,316 metres: Les Rochettes, the highest point of the Grand Bois.
(5) On the way down, leave the path and head right through the woods to a large charcoal burner's pothole. There is another one further to the right. Then rejoin the path below and turn right.
(6) At the crossroads, take the path on the right. Continue straight ahead at the first crossroads and continue to the next crossroads.
(7) At the Bourdouse crossroads, turn right, then immediately left onto a moderately downhill path.
(8) You will reach a wider path running perpendicular to this one. Turn right and continue to the Maison des Gardes.
(9) After the house, at the fork, take the path downhill to the left. About 400 m further on (elevation 1159), take the path on the right, which generally stays on the hillside. You will reach a crossroads with a small clearing.
(10) Optional: at this crossroads, you can quickly reach the Grotte Sarrasinière, a simple shallow hole at the foot of a rocky embankment. Take the path on the left (not marked on the map) and try to spot the rock on the left in the woods, but it is not easy to find. Return to the crossroads and turn left, continuing straight ahead to quickly reach the starting point (S/E).
