From the Côtes du Suzon to the Bas Pommier de Beaurepaire

A lovely walk through forest and open countryside, suitable for all seasons. In wet weather, wait a few days as this route crosses the Suzon riverbed. Although close to Saint-Barthélémy and Beaurepaire, the section along the Suzon offers a very pleasant feeling of being in the countryside, far from civilisation. A 10 km or 8.2 km walk – see practical information.

Description of the walk

Start from the La Chambourrière neighbourhood (southern tip of the Pommier de Beaurepaire area) via the D519 (Grenoble road). Take the path between the D51C heading towards Pommier de Beaurepaire and the D73 heading towards Côte St André, via the Chemin du Suzon. Park 50 m past the last house, near thefirst left-hand bend.

(S/E) Continue straight on for about 400 to 500 m until you reach a fork and leave the path that continues straight ahead. This will be the return route.

(1) Take the path on the left which climbs up towards the plateau. As you come out of the forest, turn right and follow the edge of the woods.

(2) Ignore thefirst path branching off to the left across the fields and continue straight on along the edge of the woods. When you reach the junction with the D 51C, turn right onto it for a few dozen metres.

(3) Turn left, leave the D 51 for the track, cross the field and climb up following the track which turns right. Ignore the two tracks branching off to the left. Continue to the next Y-junction, take the right-hand branch which descends into the forest towards the Chemin du Bas. Turn left and after 30 m turn right (Maison Didier area) after about 130 m. Continue straight ahead, veering slightly left onto the D 51C.

(4) Cross it carefully and take the path opposite. Continue straight on along the Chemin de la Planche towards the sewage treatment plant. Carry on until you reach the junction with a path branching off to the right.

(5) Turn left (despite the Yellow Cross) and ignore the path on the right. Caution! This section of the path is somewhat overgrown with brambles; a pair of secateurs will come in handy!
Continue until you reach a large house and go round it.

(6) Turn right, going round the back of the house, and continue uphill towards the plateau. Follow the edge of the woods. Continue across the fields until you reach the crossroads.

(7) Turn left. Follow the path to a five-way junction.

(8) Turn right onto the first path leading back towards the forest (Chemin du Gloiret). Continue through the Côtes du Suzon. Do not take the path on the left which climbs back up to the plateau, but continue straight on.

(9) Cross the Suzon, turn left and follow the path.

(1) Continue straight on and, taking the same route back as on the way there, return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

No water source; wear walking boots or trainers.
Alternative route:
(5) Turn right and join (7) to avoid brambles and stones. This shortens the hike by 1.7 km.
At the moment, I’m not in a fit state to go hiking and I can’t go and clear the path. For those who’d like to tackle this overgrown section, a pair of secateurs would be very welcome!

An easy walk with some lovely little sections. I wasn’t so keen on the wide paths through the fields, but they’re part of the local landscape too (and it’s flat 😁)!

A nice little walk. No trouble finding our way. It’s definitely best avoided after rain, but that was clearly stated in the description, so weWe got our feet a bit wet crossing the river, but it was our choice and we enjoyed it. Thanks to the author – this isn’t the first walk I’ve done by this author and I’d like to thank them. And yes, you do need to follow their directions as you leave the marked trail for a bit, but if you follow their directions there’s no problem at all; plus, the app is brilliant. Perfect

A lovely, well-shaded walk; the only tricky bit is between points 5 and 7, as the path is full of brambles and lots of stones, so taking the shortcut between 5 and 7 would be much better

Hello,
thank you for your feedback, but the whole point of Visorando is not to follow signposted walks. Otherwise, it’s just copying. You should have followed the instructions without worrying about the signposts.
But I wish you happy hiking on Visorando?

It was difficult to follow the entire route. We got a bit lost at point 5: the direction indicated (turn left) was marked with a Yellow Cross. So we carried on following the yellow signposts on the right, and we only managed to rejoin the route at point 9 (crossing the Suzon) because the directions on the signs didn’t match those on the map. However, it was a lovely walk and we did reach our destination in the end!! Thank you very much!!
