Delémont - Lucelle Petit Kohlberg

This first stage of the Chemin du Jura begins in Delémont, the capital of the Canton of Jura. You will cross this pretty medieval town. A forest path will take you to a plateau offering a view of the Jura mountain range. Before descending to Lake Lucelle, you can enjoy another panoramic view at the Grande Roche.
The village of Lucelle in Switzerland no longer has any accommodation, so you will make a short detour into Alsace, to the commune of Lucelle in France, where you can stay at the Auberge du Petit Kolhberg.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Jura Trail (Switzerland)

Description of the walk

For ease of description, the following annotations are used:
Sign R: Yellow sign with hiker pictogram.
Sign No. 31: Yellow multi-directional sign with green sticker No. 31.
The start of this hike is near the SBB railway station in Delémont.

Signposting: Swiss sign R or sign No. 31.

(S) From the Ibis hotel, head west, taking Rue de la Malière and then Rue de la Maltière. At the roundabout, turn right towards the north-west and follow the signs for No. 31 until you leave the town.

(1) At the Randonneur sign, leave the road and follow the path along the edge of the woods. Follow the signs until you reach a sign 31 at the end of a field.

(2) Turn left, join a small road and follow it until you reach a hairpin bend.

(3) At the R sign, start climbing through the woods and cross a forest track at an altitude of around 800 metres. Continue west to rejoin a small road.

(4) Follow the road west until you reach another sign on the right.

(5) At this point, the sign indicates that you should take a rough track. Stay on the road until you reach the Haute Borne farm.

(6) Leave the farm on your right and head west as indicated by the sign. You will come to a small road at an elevation of 876 metres. Follow it until you reach an intersection at La Ventolière, which also has a sign marked No. 31.

(7) Take the track heading west, keeping a telecommunications antenna in sight. Pass through Les Côtes (901 metres). Approach the antenna until you see a sign for the refuge.

(8) Continue to the Cerneux refuge, a pleasant place to take a break.

(9) Just behind the refuge, a signpost for hikers indicates the direction of path No. 31. If the meadow has not been mowed, the path is difficult to find in the tall grass. It is therefore advisable to follow the track heading north-west until you reach a bend.

(10) Keep heading north-west and descend towards the Plaimbois farm, where you will find a sign for No. 31.

(11) Continue west until you see a sign for Grande Roche.

(12) Begin the climb towards the Grande Roche, crossing several cow pens. Close the gates behind you and walk along the pastures at the edge of the woods.

(13) Enjoy the view and the picnic table for a break. Take the ridge trail north-east and begin the descent to an intersection with a forest track.

(14) As indicated by sign No. 31, continue north-east along the track to quickly return to Lac de Lucelle.

(15) Follow the road towards the lake. Pass the old customs house and the former abbey to reach a new signpost No. 31.

(16) Take the small road on the right until you reach the junction with the Chemin de l'Abbaye Saint Bernard.

(17) Take the path indicated by the R sign and you will quickly reach the start of two paths.

French signposting: Yellow triangle.

(18) Take the second path, which is quite steep at first. Stay at the edge of the woods and gradually descend towards a forest track.

(19) Turn right until you reach the junction of two tracks.

(20) Take the track on the left, which curves in a semicircle. Continue to a new intersection.

(21) Leave the path on your right that leads to a field. Turn left, then quickly right to come out on the Petit Kohlberg road.

(22) Turn right towards the Auberge du Petit Kohlberg, where you will be staying for the night (E).
