From Valfréjus to Modane via the GR®5

Head to the centre of Valfréjus resort. Park in one of the many car parks nearby.

(S/E) Follow the signs for the Charmaix chapel. Take the path, which is the GR®5 marked in white and red, go downhill, pass a picnic area, then reach the chapel.

(1) Continue left and follow a path mostly under the trees until you reach the road at a wayside shrine.

(2) Walk along the road, turn left to follow the oratories and, at a hairpin bend, rejoin the D216 road.

(3) Take this road, paying close attention to traffic, until you reach another wayside shrine at a hairpin bend.

(4) Leave the road and take the path opposite. Continue until you reach the tunnel under the A43 motorway.

(5) Go through the tunnel, then turn right and follow the motorway for a good hundred metres. You will come to a crossroads.

(6) Take the left-hand path and continue downhill through the woods. Continue past more oratories until you reach a small tunnel under the railway line.

(7) Go through this tunnel, taking care not to bump your head as the ceiling is low. Continue to follow the GR®5 until you reach a residential area. Head for the town hall.

(8) Turn left and follow the road to the station. Pass the Auchan store and continue across the road, following the Arc to reach Modane Station (E).

(E) To reach Valfréjus station, take the shuttle bus

Take the Modane-Valfréjus shuttle bus back, but be sure to check the timetable. The shuttle bus can also be taken from Modane town hall if you want to shorten the journey.
