Park in the car park of the Maison Forestière de Salm.
(S/E) Cross the road and take the Route Forestière (RF) des Allemands marked with a blue sign and walk slightly uphill to reach the Sentier des Passeurs crossroads.
(1) Leave the RF and continue to the right on the Sentier des Passeurs, following the blue signposts, which are shared here with the green disc signposts. Pass the monument erected in memory of the smugglers. Continue along this path and pass the first crossroads, where you will see some works of art.
At the next intersection, turn right and leave the blue signposts to follow the green ring signposts. You will then reach another crossroads.
(2) Turn left, then left again very quickly to follow the Red Triangle markings. You will reach the Haute Loge shelter. On a clear day, enjoy the 360° view of the Vosges peaks. Descend the path behind the shelter to reach the road. Pass the ruins of an old dairy farm.
Walk along this road through the forest to reach the Hautes Chaumes crossroads.
(3) Leave the road, continue to the left, still following the red triangle markings, and you will reach a clearing where there is a crossroads of paths.
(4) Continue straight ahead, now following both the red triangle and blue ring markings. Descend Basse des Loges and further on you will reach the Ruisseau du Grand Bras stream.
(5) Cross it and continue on the Red Triangle trail. Continue on the track heading west and go through the barrier. A slight climb takes you to the Haut du Bon-Dieu picnic area.
(6) Leave the red triangle markings here and turn left onto theGRP® de la Déodatie marked with a yellow ring. Pass an oratory and then a viewpoint. Continue on theGRP® to reach the chapel at Lac de la Maix.
(7) Head east and continue on theGRP® de la Déodatie, or, according to the maps, the Pays du Donon trail. Follow the multiple markings here: blue diamond, red cross, yellow ring. Reach the RF des Bannes crossroads.
(8) First turn right then left and continue along this track to the Prayé road, following multiple markings including the red cross.
(9) Turn left and go up the tarmac road to the Col de Prayé.
(10) Take the path on the right and, after about 30 metres, turn left onto the path marked with a yellow triangle, towards Salm. Continue to the Chapelle de Bipierre chapel.
(11) Continue downhill through the forest, still following the yellow triangle markings, and turn right. Be careful at this turn, as the markings are not very visible here. Follow these markings to the Ruisseau de la Truite forest road. At the intersection, turn right to reach the road and continue towards the footbridge.
(12) Cross the footbridge and begin the climb to reach the Route Forestière de l'Aiguille. Turn left onto it. Continue, following the double yellow triangle and blue trestle markings. Cross the Route du Coucou and then descend to the Ruisseau du Pré Silet.
(13) Cross it and begin the final climb. Pass the Maison Forestière du Coucou and you will soon reach the MF de Salm car park (S/E).
