Park near the Rammersmatt Farm, Rue Principale, at the exit towards Bourbach
(S/E) The marker is opposite the farm, on the other side of the road: red-white-red rectangle towards the Col du Hundsruck, via the Abri du Hochburg. A dirt track climbs uphill. Climb up to the Spannplatz crossroads (you will pass this again on the way back).
(1) Follow the yellow triangle markings on the right towards Col du Hundsruck. Stay on the wide path that climbs uphill. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the Hochburg Chalet.
(2) Continue following the yellow triangle signs along the path that climbs above the chalet. Pass the Vierge des Bûcherons (Woodcutters' Virgin). When you leave the forest, you will arrive at Col du Hundsruck.
(3) Cross the RD14bIV or Route Joffre to reach the opposite side and turn left onto the Baeselbach and Ferme-auberge des Buissonnets road. Continue towards this farmhouse inn and you will reach it.
(4) Continue down the tarmac road and then straight on towards the carriage road. Keep following the red crosses. A little further on, there are two parallel paths: take the one on the left. The descent to the village is steep. Turn left onto a small path just before the house. Continue downhill to reach the first houses of Bourbach-le-Haut.
(5) Cross the tarmac road and continue along the path that runs alongside the log house. Take the new road opposite, Rue Maienberg. Continue downhill to the village hall square. Continue slightly to the left, Rue du Kohlberg (there is a no entry sign), with a new marker: red-white-red rectangle. Rue du Kohlberg has a Way of the Cross leading to a beautiful calvary. The tarmac gives way to dirt. A wide path leads to a metal footbridge.
(6) Continue along it, following the red-white-red rectangle towards Rammersmatt. Climb up through the pasture, following the fence, and enter the forest. A nice climb. Continue climbing when the path becomes a wide track. When you reach a crossroads, continue climbing (red-white-red) towards the forest path to the tomb. At the next crossroads opposite, follow the same signpost. Pass in front of the famous tomb of an unknown soldier and begin the descent.
(7) You will soon come to a wider path on the right. Follow the same markings towards Rammersmatt. At the big bend at elevation 604, take the Kohlerberg-Haut forest path on the left. At the next hairpin bend, take the Kaltenbach path on the right. You will come to another fork.
(8) Turn left onto the Kaschelbach path to reach the initial crossroads at Spannplatz.
(1) Descend towards the farm and the car park (S/E).
