Description of the walk

Start from the fitness trail car park, above Bourbach-le-Bas, above the multi-purpose hall and sports complex.

(S/E) Head down towards the village, following the access road and the GR® markings (Red Rectangle and White Rectangle). Below the multi-purpose hall, turn left, then immediately right, cross the Bourbach stream, then turn immediately right.

(1) Take thesecond street on the left. Head up into the forest, following the same signposting. Ignore all the signposted paths on your right and continue straight on.

(2) Pass the signposted path on your right, cross the D36 at the farm and the first houses in Rammerstatt, and continue to follow the GR® markings.

(3) At the junction of marked paths, carry on straight ahead, following the GR®-marked forest track. Then leave the Kaltenbach forest track on your left. At a Y-junction of forest tracks, take the one on the right and then leave the forest track, still following the GR® markings.

Alternative route: At the crossroads (3), follow the Yellow Triangle markings to reach the Col d’Hundsruck more quickly and easily via the Hochburg shelter on your left.

(4) Turn left, heading uphill along the path beside a fence, following the GR® and Yellow Triangle markings.

(5) At the junction near the grave, leave the GR® and take the unmarked path on the right, running alongside the fence. Continue along the path, which is well marked at the start; it branches off to the left atthe first junction and, after leaving the forest, follows a footpath along the edge of a hayfield and climbs through the vegetation below the summit of the Kohlberg (there is a bench offering a view just below the summit). Continue along the ridge towards the National Monument to the Shock Troops.

(6) At the junction after the monument with the Yellow Triangle-marked path, head down to the left towards the Col d’Hundsruck.

(7) At the pass, take the path leading down to the left (GR® markings), before the D14BIV. Cross the D14BIV twice, taking great care to watch out for traffic. You’ll rejoin Rue des Rochelles at the top of the village of Bourbach-le-Haut.

(8) Walk down Rue des Rochelles on the left.

(9) Leave this street after the community centre and head up to the right, towards Saint-Michel Church.

(10) In the main square opposite the town hall, take the steps that pass under the primary school. At the next junction, turn right onto Route de Bourbach-le-Bas.

(11) At the next junction, take Rue du Schirm, a dead-end street that leads uphill. Follow the path at the end of this street, passing close to the Bourbach-le-Haut educational orchard, then join the D14BIV and follow it for 200 m.

(12) At the pass, turn left and follow the GR®-marked forest track. Near the mast, ignore the forest track on your right.

(13) At this left-hand bend in the forest track, continue along the signposted path to the right of the track.

(14) Join the forest track again, then, after a left-hand bend in the track, take the GR®-marked path on the left. At the following junctions, carry on straight ahead to the car park (S/E).
