From Mauléon-Licharre to Saint-Just-Ibarre

Unless otherwise indicated, the stage follows the^GR®®78.

(S) From the Refuge Pèlerins, Rue des Frères Barenne, head west-northwest. Turn left onto Boulevard Gambetta (D11). When it turns left, turn right onto Rue de la Liberté. Take the first left, Rue Jaureguiberry.

(1) Cross the D611 at the crossroads and continue along Rue Jaureguiberry. At the fork, turn left onto Rue d'Iraty and leave the village by climbing up alongside a wood on your right.

(2) After the last house, take the first path on the left and enter a wood. At the T-junction, turn right and continue south-west, slightly downhill towards a stream valley.

(3) Cross the stream, turn left along the stream and then make a sharp right turn. Climb up the winding road. At the Etxekoparea farm, the path becomes a track. At the crossroads immediately ahead, turn left. Cross a stream, stay on the road and ignore all the turnings on the right.

(4) At the crossroads, take the^{second road} on the right, Ort Bethey, to enter Garindein. In the village, turn right onto the D918. Cross the Urgorri stream and, after the church, turn right onto Chemin Arrokaina Altia. Ignore two turnings on the right.

(5) At the next intersection, turn right. Continue straight ahead on the same uphill road, passing the hamlets of Arrokainenea and Merkhapidea. Pass a spring on your left and go under a high-voltage power line.
(6) At the Eihartzea farm, the road becomes a path. Ignore a path on the right (elevation 294). At the fork that appears immediately, bear right. At the next fork, bear left and descend.

(7) At the crossroads, make a sharp right turn. Continue downhill, passing two springs on your right in the forest. At Sortheraborda, follow the path on the left. Cross a stream at the beginning of a wood and head left (south) to Landranea.

(8) At the crossroads, go straight ahead. After the campsite, take the path on the right. Go downhill, cross a stream and go back uphill. At Jauria, the path becomes a track.

(9) After about 50 metres, continue straight ahead (south) on a path (ignore the wider road that turns right). Go downhill, arrive at a road and follow it to the right. Cross a stream, turn left and go uphill. At the crossroads, turn left and, at the next crossroads, turn left again to arrive immediately at a crossroads.

(10) Then turn right (south). Ignore all the side roads and continue to Ordiarp.

(11) At the crossroads, turn left (south) and pass in front of the Basque pelota court (Route de Garabaie). After crossing a stream, at a T-junction, follow the D348 to the left. When you reach Queheillalt, continue along the D348 to the left for a few metres.

(12) Immediately take the^{first road} on the right (leave the^GR®® straight ahead). Climb up to the hamlet of Saldun and continue along a path. Come out onto a track and follow it to the right. Pass the place called Ahünzborda and reach the summit at 222m. Descend into a small valley and climb back up. Come out onto a small road and follow it uphill to the left.

(13) At the T-junction, rejoin the^GR®® and follow it to the right. In a left-hand bend (altitude 345 m), take a path straight ahead. Head west-southwest.

(14) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead and climb steeply up a series of hairpin bends, staying on the^GR®® and ignoring the paths branching off to the sides.

(15) At the intersection, turn right at an acute angle. At a fork, bear left. Continue slightly uphill on the hillside, heading west-southwest. You will come to a track; follow it to the left to quickly reach the Col d'Ehüsa.

(16) Continue straight ahead (north-west) and, in a right-hand bend, bear left with the GR®^®. Pass at the foot of the 571m peak and descend in hairpin bends. Cross the Ihitiko Erreka stream again.

(17) At the end of the footbridge, turn right and follow the stream. Cross the stream again at a place called Muxta and turn left at the next crossroads. Follow the^{GR®®78 trail}through Tuiurrunea and Karrikartea.

(18) At Muthila, turn left and cross the Bidouze. Immediately turn right onto a path that quickly becomes a trail. Continue straight ahead into the valley.

(19) At Buxuntegia, in a right-hand bend, turn left onto a path (west-northwest). Return to the tarmac, continue northwest and pass through Bordda and then Xunda. At the T-junction, turn right. Cross the Bidouze and you will reach Saint-Just-Ibarre (E).

(8) Landranea. At the crossroads with the cross, before the houses, turn right onto the hairpin road that leads to the archaeological site. The protohistoric fortified camp of Gastelusare is 2.5 km away. Return via the^PR®® (total approx. + 5 km).

(11) Ordiarp. The Romanesque church of St Michel. The 18th-century altarpiece.
