From Platja Formentor to Cala Burta and back

From March to November, access by car beyond Formentor beach is only possible before 10am. This hike takes you to Cala Murta, a magnificent little secluded cove in the middle of nowhere.

Description of the walk

Park in the large car park at Formentor beach (mostly covered and often free).

At the start of the walk, you follow an unsightly embankment, then cross a few firebreaks. The walk is through woodland for most of the way, but on the return journey the climb up to Col de Olivardar with the sun at its zenith can be a bit of a struggle.

Cala Murta is a good spot for a swim (bring shoes as the beach is pebbly). The end of the walk is a great spot for a picnic.

The return journey follows the same route in the opposite direction.

An easy route. The walk offers little in the way of scenic interest, but the destination is worth the detour.

The route appears to cross private land reserved for big-game hunting, whilst some signs indicate a protected area for goats. The signage is therefore somewhat contradictory.

The cove, which is very beautiful, is not very busy as you have to walk quite a distance to reach it. The beach consists of large pebbles, which quickly give way to sand. There are mules in the area, and they can be quite persistent at picnic time.
