From Gare de Lyon to Porte d'Auteuil

The departure point is at the exit of Gare de Lyon, Rue de Bercy. Access via the metro (lines 1, 14), the RER (lines A, D), the Transilien (line R) or the bus (lines 24, 29, 57, 61, 63, 72, 77, 87, 91).

(S) Upon exiting the station, turn left (south-east) onto Rue de Bercy. Cross Boulevard de Bercy in two stages and walk alongside the multi-sports arena on your right. Just before a large hotel belonging to a well-known chain, turn right into a passage leading to Parc de Bercy. Pass an artificial pond on your left, then turn left into the Yitzhak Rabin Garden. You will arrive at the foot of the stairs leading to the Simone de Beauvoir Footbridge.

(1) Climb the stairs, take the footbridge and cross the Seine. You will arrive at the Bibliothèque François Mitterrand and turn left onto a wide paved walkway. Pass by the base of the Tour des Lois, then go down a flight of stairs on the left to leave the esplanade.

At the bottom, on Rue Émile Durkheim, first turn right then left onto Rue Jean Anouilh. Walk past Square Georges Duhamel. At the end of the street, turn left into Rue Neuve Tolbiac. Take the first street on the right, Rue des Frigos. At each junction, continue straight ahead. Pass by the former Grands Moulins de Paris on your left and walk alongside the Jardin Abbé Pierre on your right.

(2) When you reach a footbridge, turn right into the Jardin Abbé Pierre and cross it. Then cross Rue Marie-Andrée Lagroua Weill-Hallé to enter a square. Exit on the other side and cross Avenue de France in two stages. Follow Rue des Grands Moulins and cross Rue des Cadets de la France Libre.

Then turn right into the Cyprian Norwid Garden. Start crossing diagonally, then turn left to come out onto Rue des Grands Moulins. Cross Rue du Chevaleret and continue along Rue des Grands Moulins. At the junction, take the^second left, Rue du Dessous des Berges. Cross Rue Résal on the left-hand side, then turn left into the Jardin Berthe-Morisot. Cross this garden and exit at the junction between Rue du Dessous des Berges and Rue Eugène Oudiné.

(3) Then turn right twice to follow Rue de Patay. Take the^first left, Rue Trolley de Prévaux. Cross Rue Albert to join Rue Jean Fautrier. At the end of the street, first turn right then left to enter Passage Bourgouin.

You will come out onto Rue Nationale; follow it to the right until you reach No. 60, located just in front of the next bus stop. Then turn left, cross a square and continue along a passageway between the buildings (Rue du Javelot). Next, cross the Dalle des Olympiades and a shopping area to reach Avenue d’Ivry.

(4) Cross Avenue d’Ivry and turn left into a passageway (Rue Simone Weil). Then ignore all the turn-offs on the left and follow Rue Charles Bertheau. You will come to Avenue de Choisy; follow it to the left. Walk past the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Chine and then the Church of Saint-Hippolyte. Walk past a fast-food restaurant and turn right into a passageway leading to the Rue Gandon Garden.

Enter the garden and cross it to exit onto Rue Gandon. Turn right, then turn left into the Jardin Juan Miro. Cross part of it (north-west) and exit onto Rue Tagore. Follow this road to the left. Cross Avenue d’Italie and follow it to the left as far as the Porte d’Italie.

(5) Cross Boulevard Kellermann and the tram tracks to enter Square Robert-Bajac opposite. Cross the square to exit onto Rue du Docteur Bourneville. Follow this road to the right, rejoin Boulevard Kellermann and follow it to the left. After about fifty metres, enter Parc Kellermann.

Walk right through the park, keeping to the left of the ponds and the artificial waterfall. Exit onto Rue de la Poterne des Peupliers. Follow this street to the right, then turn left onto Rue de Sainte-Hélène. Walk past a cemetery and, at the next junction, turn left onto Avenue Caffieri.

(6) When the street bends to the right and changes its name, continue straight ahead and enter Square Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier. Go straight on, then turn right, leaving the Charléty Stadium on your left. Leave the square and walk alongside Boulevard Kellermann and the tram tracks again. Cross Avenue Pierre de Coubertin and continue along Boulevard Jourdan.

(7) At number 7, turn left into the Cité Internationale. You will immediately come to two tarmac paths: take the one on the right, leaving the Maison de l’Institut National Agronomique on your left (sculpture associated with this institution). At the junction, turn right and walk past the Fondation Bierman-Lapôtre on your right, then the Fondation des États-Unis.

Then cross the Cour d’Honneur and walk past the Administrative Pavilion on your right. Continue along Avenue Rockefeller and go straight on until you reach the Pierre and Marie Curie Pavilion. Then turn left and take the^first right.

At the end, cross Avenue David Weill and enter the West Park of the Cité Universitaire. Continue straight ahead and exit on the other side. Cross Rue du Professeur Hyacinthe Vincent and take Avenue Paul Appell opposite. Follow this avenue to its end at the Porte d’Orléans.

(8) Cross Avenue de la Porte d’Orléans, then Rue de la Légion Étrangère. Go round the bus station on the left and, just before reaching Avenue Reyer, turn left into Square du Serment de Koufra. Continue straight on along Allée Clarisse Jean-Philippe. Then turn right to reach the exit at the junction of Avenue de la Porte de Montrouge and Avenue Reyer.

Cross Avenue de la Porte de Montrouge, follow Avenue Ernest Reyer and walk alongside Montrouge Cemetery on your left. Further on, turn right into Rue Nicolas Taunay and walk alongside Square Jean Moulin. Cross Place de la Porte de Châtillon, Boulevard Brune and the tram tracks. Follow Avenue Jean Moulin straight ahead.

(9) Take the^first left, Rue Auguste Caïn, and walk alongside the old Petite Ceinture railway line. Cross Rue des Plantes and continue straight on into Rue Giordano Bruno. Further on, the street veers to the right and becomes Rue Ledion. At the end, turn left into Rue Didot. At the end of Rue Ledion, follow Rue Didot to the left. Ignore the first two alleys on the right (Allée des Hortensias and Voie Léonie Kastner).

(10) At the next junction, turn right and enter a landscaped park. Go straight on, cross Rue Huguette Schwartz and continue into the other part of the park. At the end of the park, cross Rue Raymond Losserand to enter Jardin Paturle. Exit on the other side and turn left onto Rue Vercingétorix. Stay on this road at the junction to reach Porte de Vanves.

(11) Cross Boulevard Brune, continue straight ahead and pass a large hotel. Follow Rue Julia Bartet and enter the square of the same name. Cross the square heading south-west to come out onto Rue Julia Bartet. Follow the street then turn right to go under the railway lines. Then take the^first right, Avenue de la Porte Brancion, then the^first left, Avenue Albert Bartholomé.

Cross Rue Jean Sicard on the right-hand side, then turn right into Square du Docteur Calmette. Turn left immediately to come out onto Rue André Theuriet. Turn left again.

(12) Return to Avenue Albert Bartholomé and follow it to the right. Go straight on, cross Rue Gaston Boissier and walk along Square du Cardinal Verdier. At the corner, turn right onto Rue Thureau-Dangin and arrive at Boulevard Lefebvre (Saint Anthony of Padua Church on the right).

(13) Follow the boulevard to the left, then cross at the next pedestrian crossing on the right to take Rue Olivier de Serres.

(14) After about 100 metres, go down a metal staircase on the left which leads to the old Petite Ceinture line. Follow this to the left for about 1.5 km (the line crosses several streets). At the end, go down a staircase which leads to Place Balard.

(15) Follow Rue Leblanc to the left. Take the^first right, Rue Saint-Charles, and immediately turn left into a park. Go straight on, passing the Monument to the Fallen for France in Overseas Operations. Further on, enter Parc André Citroën. Leave the large greenhouses on your right and turn left between two narrow ponds. Walk along the right-hand side of a large lawn where you will find a hot-air balloon.

(16) Just before the railway bridge and the Seine, take a path on the left. After a sharp left-hand bend, the^GR® passes in front of the Paris Prefecture before emerging onto Rue Leblanc at a roundabout. Take the second exit and go under the railway line. Then turn left and follow the railway line and the Pont du Garigliano-Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou station. Go up to the Pont du Garigliano and cross the boulevard at the traffic lights.

(17) Then turn right and cross the Seine using the left-hand pavement of the bridge. On the other bank, go down the steps on the left which lead to a narrow lane. Follow it to the left and immediately turn right onto Quai Louis Blériot. Continue straight on until the^third junction. There, turn right onto Rue du Général Niox. Take the^first left, Rue du Général Mailleterre.

Turn right with the street and cross Rue Abel Ferry on the right-hand side. Then turn left, walk along Place de l’Abbé Franz Stock and continue onto Avenue Dode de la Brunerie. At the corner of No. 18, take the^second right and cross at the successive traffic lights (leaving Place de la Porte de Saint-Cloud on your right).

(18) Turn left, cross Avenue Édouard Vaillant, then turn right into the Jardin de la Porte de Saint-Cloud. When you reach a playground, take the^first path on the right. Go through a small tunnel under Avenue Édouard Vaillant and continue straight ahead through the garden. Pass under another avenue and exit the garden to reach Avenue Ferdinand Buisson. Follow this avenue to the right. At the end of the avenue, first turn left then right to cross the avenue at the entrance to Boulogne-Billancourt.

Follow Rue du Commandant Guilbaud and pass by the Parc des Princes (football). At the roundabout, continue straight on along Rue Nungesser et Coli and pass by the Stade Jean-Bouin (rugby). Further on, cross Avenue de la Porte Molitor and walk alongside the Piscine Molitor on your right. At the end of the street, turn left onto Boulevard d’Auteuil. Take the^first right onto Avenue Gordon-Bennett.

(19) After about 70 m, turn right into the Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil. At the junction immediately ahead, turn left. Go straight on, keeping the greenhouses on your right. Turn right and ignore the large exit gate on the left. Then turn left to enter the Jardin des Poètes. Continue straight ahead and exit left onto Avenue de la Porte d'Auteuil. Go to the traffic lights, turn left and cross the avenue. Immediately cross a street and reach the Porte d'Auteuil metro station (E).

A GPS route is strongly recommended

It is possible to stop well before the end of the walk thanks to the numerous metro stations.

There are numerous water points along the route and plenty of places to buy refreshments.

Information for returning by metro ( line 10):
At Porte d'Auteuil station, there is only one possible destination: Boulogne. To return to central Paris, towards Gare d'Austerlitz, get off at the^first stop, Boulogne-Jean Jaurès, and take a train in the opposite direction from the same platform.
