(S/E) Leave the school in La Bréole and head towards the centre of the village via the D707. Ignore the first street on the left, which will be for the return journey, and take the next one. At the fountain, turn left onto the D57 road which descends to the edge of Lake Serre Ponçon.
(1) At the crossroads, continue to the right, cross the small stone bridge and descend to the lake. All along this road, there are extraordinary views of the lake itself, the Ubaye valley on the right and the Durance valley on the left, as well as the mountain ridges: Pic de Morgon opposite, Dormillouse on the right and Champsaur on the left.
(2) Turn around at the lake and go back up the same road to the small stone bridge.
(1) At the end of the bridge, turn right and follow the yellow-marked trail. Follow the trail to the point marked "l'Escoubaye".
(3) From L'Escoubaye (small wooden fountain and picnic table), on the left, you will see the wall of the Serre-Ponçon dam with the water intake feeding the hydroelectric power station. From here, the climb begins, which can be difficult at times (stones, roots). Continue for about 100 metres southwards, first along the edge of the meadow, then turn right and start climbing up to the viewpoint overlooking the dam wall and the bottom of the valley towards Gap.
(4) Continue south-east, keeping to the left, until you reach another viewpoint with a sign explaining the two valleys of the Ubaye and the Durance.
(5) A little further on, take a 50-metre-long carriage road, which you will quickly leave. Turn left towards the Château. The path runs alongside a fence and climbs through woods to the highest point of the hike, called the Château, but where nothing remains. Only an information panel tells the story of this place. From there, a somewhat tricky descent begins on slate-covered slopes, leading to a small tarmac road.
(6) Turn left to return to the village of La Bréole and reach the starting point at the school (S/E).
