Access:
Starting point: Head towards Mont Lubin (or Grande Montagne if you are coming from Pointe Coton) and then Grande Montagne. Stay on the same road until you see the sign for Gravier. At the sign, turn right (left if you are coming from Pointe Coton) and follow the road to its terminus.
End point: Head towards Mont Lubin, then Grande Montagne. Follow the road to its end in Pointe Coton.
(S) Take the track that continues straight ahead at the end of the road. You can already see the beautiful Gravier beach on your right. The track then turns left and winds its way through the casuarina trees that stretch as far as the eye can see.
(1) At each junction, keep to the right until you reach Anse Fémie, where you should take the path that leads to this beach. It is impossible to miss as it is marked with orange and yellow signs.
If in doubt, follow the orange and yellow markings.
On the other side of the beach, take the path that leads back up to the track. When you reach it, turn right and follow the path to its end, following the orange and yellow markings. You will pass idyllic beaches and coves that are well worth stopping at for a dip. If you look back, you may be able to take a photo of three beaches at once, as they are so close together. The vegetation is quite low in places, offering beautiful views of the region. As is often the case in Rodrigues, you will come across many goats.
(2) You will then pass by the beautiful Anse Bouteille, which is the most beautiful beach on the route but also the smallest.
(3) You will then arrive at Trou d'Argent, one of the most famous beaches in Rodrigues.
(4) Before the end of the trail, cross one last beach: Anse Philibert.
(5) At the end of the trail, turn right onto the path that leads to Saint-François beach. At the kiosks, turn left and join the road to avoid crossing a ravine with your feet in the water. Follow the road to the next ravine and descend on the left bank.
(6) Walk along the coastline again until you reach a hotel complex, which you should walk past before taking a path on the right that runs along the coastline and leads to the beautiful Anse Ally beach.
(7) Then reach Fumier beach. On the other side of the beach, take the track that starts on the left and winds through the casuarina trees. Follow it to its terminus (E).
The highlight of the route is "l'anse bouteille" (bottle cove), the only place where you may not be alone. "Trou d'argent" (silver hole) is almost disappointing in comparison. Avoid visiting at the weekend, as the Rodriguans love the coast and are quite present in every sense of the word. On a side note, there is unfortunately quite a lot of litter near Gravier, including bottles, packaging, etc. Despite the presence of numerous bins, the areas under the casuarina trees are very often littered. The island is criss-crossed by countless paths traced by the inhabitants, but hiking there is not easy as there are no signs, as is the case on the roads.
